An electromagnetic radiation shielding device includes a first ply having a No. 1 surface and a No. 2 surface and a second ply having a No. 3 surface and a No. 4 surface. The No. 2 surface of the first ply faces the No. 3 surface of the second ply. A first coating having three or more metallic layers is provided over at least a portion of one of the surfaces, such as over at least a portion of the No. 2 surface. A second coating having three or more metallic layers is provided over at least a portion of one or more of the other surfaces, such as over at least a portion of the No. 3 surface.

Electromagnetic radiation shielding device

Disclosed are composite transparencies and methods for their production. The colored composite transparencies include a surface at least partially coated with a transparent tinted coating deposited from a coating composition comprising polymer-enclosed color-imparting particles.

Composite transparencies

A low temperature solder including indium in the range of 62-65 weight percent and tin in the range of 31-33 weight percent uses the heat generated during thermal treatment of one or more glass sheets to melt the solder. In one non-limiting embodiment, a lead providing external access to an electrical conductive arrangement, e.g. a conductive member between and connected to spaced bus bars between laminated sheets has an end portion of a connector, e.g. a lead soldered to each of the bus bars during thermal processing of the sheets, e.g. during the lamination of the sheets during a windshield manufacturing process. In another nonlimiting embodiment, the connector is soldered to the electrically conductive arrangement during the annealing of glass blanks following the heating and shaping of the glass blanks.

Solder compositions; method of soldering, and a laminated transparency having bus bars

An electrically heatable transparency has at least one substrate, a first bus bar spaced from a second bus bar, and a conductive coating formed over at least a portion of the substrate. The first and second bus bars are in electrical contact with the coating. At least one of the bus bars has an end region in electrical contact with the coating. The end region is tapered such that the coating is of substantially uniform thickness on the end region.

Heatable windshield

The invention relates to using the heat generated during thermal treatment of one or more glass sheets to melt solder. In one nonlimiting embodiment, a lead providing external access to an electrical conductive arrangement, e.g. a conductive member between and connected to spaced bus bars between laminated sheets has an end portion of a connector, e.g. a lead soldered to each of the bus bars during thermal processing of the sheets, e.g. during the lamination of the sheets during a windshield manufacturing process. In another nonlimiting embodiment, the connector is soldered to the electrically conductive arrangement during the annealing of glass blanks following the heating and shaping of the glass blanks. Soldering the leads during the annealing or laminating process eliminated possible thermal damage to the sheet by having the sheet heated during the soldering operation instead of only a small surface portion of the sheet at and eliminates the cost of a separated soldering operation.

Method of soldering and solder compositions

The present invention provides a transparent antenna including a transparent dielectric substrate, an electroconductive antenna element positioned along a major surface of the substrate, an electroconductive patch capacitively or directly connected to the antenna element, and a connector secured to the patch to permit transfer of signals generated by the antenna element to an electromagnetic energy transmitting and/or receiving device. The patch, is configured to have a visibility coefficient (i.e. a ratio of the non-opaque area to the total area) between 0 and 1. In one particular embodiment of the invention, the antenna element includes one or more transparent, electroconductive coatings positioned between first and second glass plies of a windshield for a motor vehicle and the electroconductive patch is applied to an exposed major surface of the windshield such that it overlays at least a portion of the antenna element and is capacitively coupled to the antenna element. The patch is may be formed from an opaque electroconductive ceramic IR, UV, thermoplastic or thermoset paint.

Antenna on-glass

The present invention provides for the use of electroconductive ceramic thermoplastic, thermoset and ultraviolet radiation curable paints as antenna elements and/or connector elements in a transparent antenna system. Antenna elements are formed on a major surface of a rigid transparent ply, preferably glass, and connected to a connector that permits transfer of signals generated by the antenna element to an electromagnetic energy transmitting and/or receiving device. The connector may be in direct electrical contact with or capacitively coupled to the antenna element. If desired, additional rigid transparent plies may be secured to the first ply to form a laminate, wherein the antenna element or the antenna element and the connector are laminated between the rigid plies.

Use of electrically conductive ceramic paints in antenna systems

A multiple terminal assembly includes a plurality of connectors secured within a housing in close proximity to and electrically insulated from each other. The terminals include an electroconductive strip extending outwardly from one side of the housing and an electroconductive tab extending outwardly from an opposite side of the housing. The terminals are spaced apart a fixed, predetermined distance along the housing so that when the assembly is used to supply electrical power to a structure having current carrying members extending to a connection area along an edge portion of the structure, each of the terminal strips is aligned with one of the current carrying members at the connection area and each of the tabs is aligned with a corresponding connector of a multiple connector harness assembly.

An electrically heatable windshield with a hidden bus bar configuration. A border of opaque ceramic material, preferably a lead borosilicate enamel, is bonded to an interior surface of the transparency about its periphery. Opposing electroconductive bus bars, preferably a low frit content silver-containing ceramic material, are bonded to the ceramic material so that the entire inner edge of the bus bar overlays a portion of the ceramic material and is spaced from the inner edge of the border, providing an intermediate portion of the border between the bus bars and transparency surface that is not covered by the bus bars. An electro-conductive coating is applied to the transparency to interconnect the bus bars and covers to the inner surface of the transparency, the bus bars and the intermediate portion of the ceramic material border so that electric current flowing between the bus bars must flow through the portion of the coating that covers the intermediate portion of the border.

Electrically heatable transparency

The electrical connections for an electrically heatable windshield are sealed prior to the laminating operation to prevent gas from entering the interior of the windshield through the bus bar leads when the windshield is subjected to the elevated temperatures and pressures of the laminating operation.

A terminal connector for a heated window, a heated window provided with a plurality of terminal connectors constructed and arranged for simultaneous engagement to corresponding terminals of a multiple terminal housing and a method of assembling a heated window provided with at least two of said terminal connectors in a terminal connection area along a side edge of said heated window.

Electrical connectors for electrically heated vehicle windows

A dual lead electrically heatable windshield is provided with an internal jumper arrangement that allows the bus bar having the dual lead to be powered by a single external connection to one of the dual leads. A jumper arrangement may also be used in combination with a crack detector for the dual lead heatable windshield.
