An improved apparatus for the formation and production of cylindrical pressure vessels or tanks through metal spinning operations wherein the end caps of the vessels are simultaneously formed from a hollow, thin-walled cylindrical work tube rotatably supported within the apparatus. The arrangement is further designed to provide control of the distribution of the wall thickness as well as the profile of the end cap portion of the vessel so that the knuckle area may be of controlled thickness to increase durability and performance of the tank or vessel.

Fabrication of pressure vessels

An apparatus for shearing extruded stock includes a stationary die and a rotatable die mounted adjacent one another wherein the rotatable die moves through a limited angle of rotation through the operation of a cam acting on a lever linked to the spindle in which the rotatable die is mounted. The cam undergoes a full 360.degree. of rotation although the rotatable die undergoes a limited angle of rotation. A spring or regulated pneumatic cylinder is provided to bias the rotatable die to the home position after cutting of the extruded stock.

Twist-shearing apparatus

A ball sizing machine for sizing an internal passage in a workpiece in which pressure is employed to force a sizing ball through the passage against a fluid counter-pressure. The opposite ends of a passage to be sized are sealed at each end with a tapered ram plug with the sizing ball within the head end of the passage. The passage is filled with a fluid, such as oil, from the tail end of the passage. When passsage has been filled from the tail end to a predetermined pressure, the system is conditioned to permit a metered flow of fluid out of the tail end when pressure is applied to the head end of the passage in front of the ball to force the ball through the passage.
