A method of identifying at least one particular person of interest in a collection of digital images taken over time, includes providing the collection of digital images with each digital image containing one or more persons; storing in a digital database an appearance model having a set of features associated with the particular person of interest and a prior probability of the person of interest appearing in images by a particular photographer; and comparing the appearance model with features extracted from the digital images in the collection of digital images and using the prior probability and the appearance model to determine if the particular person of interest is in one or more digital images in the collection of digital images.

Using photographer identity to classify images

A method for adjusting the color reproduction of a color image composed of pixels provided in a plurality of color channels is based on generating a reference image from a combination of the color channels, whereby each spatial coordinate of the reference image is characterized by a reference image level. Channel averages of the color channel values of the pixels that correspond to each of at least two different valued reference image levels are generated. Specific channel averages are obtained corresponding to a near white point and a near black point from the channel averages. The specific channel averages are utilized on a pixel by pixel basis for the respective channels of the digital color image to produce a processed digital color image having improved color reproduction.

A method for adjusting the tone scale reproduction of a color image composed of pixels provided in a plurality of color channels is based on generating a reference image from a combination of the color channels, whereby each spatial coordinate of the reference image is characterized by a reference image level. Channel averages of the color channel values of the pixels that correspond to the different valued reference image levels are generated. A method of transforming the color appearance of a plurality of digital images includes receiving a plurality of digital images from a capture medium wherein each digital image includes a plurality of pixel values relating to at least three basic colors; calculating a color correction transform by using a non-linear adjustment that is independent of the digital images and which corrects an under-exposure condition as a function of the capture medium; and a linear functional relationship dependent upon the pixels of the basic colors, the linear functional relationship defining an exposure-level-dependent estimate of gray corresponding to the photographic response of the capture medium; and using the color correction transform to modify the pixels of the plurality of digital images wherein the pixels within a digital image are transformed with varying degrees of color modification as a function of exposure.

Color transformation for processing digital images

A method of image processing in which a plurality of channel input signals are a function of unknown recorded signal levels and unknown signal sensitivities, the method involving the sampling and measuring of the recorded signals and sensitivities at each channel to determine weighting values that eliminate the contribution of the unknown signal sensitivities, the weighting values being used to further process the input signals to form output signals representing the unknown recorded level signals.

A method for deriving a color negative film developer composition and processing conditions for developing a photographic film image which is optimized for subsequent digital scanning and digital image file manipulation, which allows for optimum rapid development processing of the film is disclosed. The process includes identifying at least one independent variable that has a first order effect on the density of at least one of the red, green, and blue dye images of the developed image, selecting a desired range of values for the independent variables identified, formulating an experimental design that includes desired independent variables over the desired range of values, performing the experiment to obtain statistically significant values for desired dependent variables, applying the values to a mathematical model capable of providing a formula for optimizing responses to the dependent variables, and using the formula to identify desired optimal developer composition and processing conditions resulting in an developed image in which the subsequent required digital scanning and digital image file manipulation is reduced. Also disclosed is a method for providing a color display image including developing an imagewise exposed color silver halide negative working film having at least two color records, with a color developer solution composition and under development process conditions derived in accordance with the above process, scanning the developed film to form density representative signals for the at least two color records, and digitally manipulating the density representative signals thus formed to correct either or both interimage interaction and gamma mismatches among said at least two color records to produce a digital record providing a display image having desired aim color and tone scale reproduction, such that the digital manipulation is minimized.

Method for formulating a photographic developer composition and process conditions to optimize developed images for digital scanning

A method of processing a digital color image having pixels and a plurality of color channels, including the steps of: generating a reference image from the digital color image; regressing the color channels of the digital color image to the reference image to obtain a plurality of regression factors for each color channel; and applying the regression factors on a pixel by pixel basis to the respective channels of the digital color image to produce a processed digital color image.

Rapid development of silver bromoiodide color negative photographic films and formation of high quality negative images suitable for scanning to produce display images of excellent quality is made possible by a novel developer solution composition and method of development. The solution is characterized by containing, in addition to the color developer compound and conventional photographic developer solution components, a water soluble pyrrolidone polymer, a high concentration of sulfite ion and a low concentration, or the absence of, bromide ion. In the novel method the developer composition contacts the exposed film at elevated temperature, e.g., 40 to 66&deg; C., for a short development time, e.g., 20 to 90 seconds. The developed image has image quality suitable for scanning and digital manipulation to produce a digital record for forming a color display image of high quality.

Developer composition and method of development for photographic color negative films

A control tool for monitoring a predetermined process condition in a photographic process and method of making the control tool. The control tool includes a support element having a plurality of rows, each row having a plurality of visual density patches and representing a different process condition. At least one of the rows is used for monitoring a process condition being monitored and at least one of the other of the rows identifies an out-of-control process condition. The plurality of rows of visual density patches are designed to be correlated with a process control strip that has been processed in the photographic process to be monitored, the support element further having textual information identifying at least one process condition and describing the process condition that may need to be corrected in response to correlation of the control strip to the control tool.

The method includes capturing and digitizing a first image of the scene in a first image capture medium and capturing and digitizing a second image of the same scene but from a displaced position from which the first and second image was captured on a second different image capture medium. The method further includes producing visual images of the first and second captured digital images which, to a viewer, provides a stereo image of the scene.
