A system and method for precision fastening of a fastener. The fastening system includes a motor and a sensor that provides a feedback signal from the motor to a controller. The controller compares the feedback signal to a threshold value to determine if an error condition exists. If the error condition exists, the controller oscillates a rotor to the motor between a first and a second position. In one construction, a resolver provides a signal to the controller representing a position of the oscillating rotor. The oscillating rotor vibrates the housing, thereby alerting an operator of the error condition. In one construction, the fastener device can alert the operator that the fastener is not tightened to a proper torque, and that the fastener is not rotated through a proper angle of rotation.

Fastening apparatus and method

A pneumatic tool is provided having a housing with an exhaust passageway and a handle. The handle has an inlet that receives the housing, an outlet having at least one exhaust port, and an interior surface that defines an exhaust chamber. The exhaust passageway, exhaust chamber, and the at least one exhaust port are sequentially in fluid communication when the housing is inserted into the handle. A seal disposed between the interior surface of the handle and the housing, the seal being located between the exhaust chamber and the inlet. Also provided is a handle substrate with an inlet that receives the housing and an interior surface that defines an exhaust chamber. The exhaust chamber is in fluid communication with the exhaust passageway when the housing is inserted into the handle. An endcap is removably attached to the handle and has an outlet with at least one exhaust port in fluid communication with the exhaust chamber. A seal is disposed at an interface between the handle and the endcap.

A pneumatic tool housing is provided having storage for an embedded electronic device. The pneumatic tool has a gas inlet for supplying a motive gas stream to the tool and an exhaust outlet for exhausting the motive gas stream from the tool. A compartment is provided for an electronic device wherein the compartment is in fluid communication with at least a portion of the motive gas stream. Also provided is a pneumatic tool housing having storage for an embedded electronic device with a compartment for an electronic device having at least one electrical lead wherein the compartment is covered by a component part of the pneumatic tool during operation.

A pneumatic tool having a housing with at least one exhaust opening and a speed regulating apparatus. The speed regulating apparatus has a cap that is removably mounted on the housing and has at least one exhaust port in fluid communication with the at least one exhaust opening. A control ring is provided having at least one aperture in fluid communication with and rotatably mounted over the at least one exhaust port, with the control ring being movable to variably open and close the at least one exhaust port.

A spring loaded guard is provided to limit access to a potential nip point formed between the rotating nut driver and its guide and wherein the guard extends beyond the guide housing a sufficient distance to engage the tubing for displacement of the guard for use in restricted access areas.

A latching magnetic switch is utilized to activate a push to start nutrunner or the like wherein the magnetic latching switch is deactivated first by one magnetic pole and thereafter upon engagement with the work piece and compression of the spindle and opposite pole of the magnet is utilized to activate the tool.

Disclosed is a 360 degree viewable flexible light band which may be readily disposed on a power tool which permits ready viewing of tool function in terms of required communication to the operator. Construction of the light band makes it readily installable and replaceable in a tool recess which may be covered by a clear lens to permit viewing.
