A transition joint comprising: 1) a generally W-shaped central portion including first, second, third, and fourth legs; 2) a first vertical flange extending upwardly form the first leg of the W-shaped central portion; 3) a second vertical flange extending downwardly from the fourth leg of the W-shaped central portion; 4) a first transition zone or land between the first and second legs and a second transition zone between the third and fourth legs; 5) a longitudinal drip edge extending downward from the first transition zone; 6) a T-shaped stucco anchor extending downward from the fourth leg intermediate the second transition zone and the second vertical flange; and 7) a floor line alignment guide extending longitudinally along the first vertical flange. The floor line alignment guide provides accurate positioning of the transition joint with respect to a building in order to create proper clearance for runoff of rainwater and condensation and prevent infiltration of rainwater into the floor line.

A step bead comprising: A) an elongated base having opposed front and back top and bottom longitudinal edges; B) a first rear vertical flange extending upwardly from the top rear longitudinal edge; C) a second rear vertical flange extending downwardly from the bottom rear longitudinal edge; D) a first front vertical flange extending upward from the top front longitudinal edge, generally parallel to the first rear vertical flange and having a first end proximate the top front longitudinal edge and a distal end; E) a longitudinal horizontal flange having a first end proximate the distal end and a second end remote from the distal end and extending from the distal end generally parallel to the base and away from the first rear vertical flange; F) a second vertical flange extending upwardly and downwardly from the second end and having a first top vertical flange end; and G) a third horizontal flange extending inwardly from the top vertical flange end toward the first vertical rear flange but not to the distal end.

Banding bead

An improved curtain wall casing bead for installation on buildings having stucco or similar curtain wall exteriors. The improved curtain wall casing bead incorporates a mesh attached to at least the base portion of the casing or starter bead, which mesh extends beyond the front edge of the base, and, when folded upward over the face of an inserted foam or curtain wall panel, provides additional area for the infiltration of over-applied stucco finishes or the like. Such additional infiltration, after drying of the over-applied layer provides a more adherent, higher quality and more durable attachment of the stucco finish to the casing bead and the overall wall structure is achieved.

Stucco casing bead

An improved ventilation strip for providing a soffit vent on a building. The ventilation strip includes an elongated perforated panel having a substantially planar upper surface and flanges extending laterally there from. A lip is provided on the lower surface of the panel at each edge of the panel running longitudinally thereon. The flanges are of non-uniform cross section and include an upper and a lower surface. The flanges are thickest at the juncture with the panel and thinnest at their outer ends with the lower surface tapering upward from the juncture to the end. Apertures may be provided in the flanges. The ventilation strip is operated by cutting a channel in the soffit of a structure, aligning the strip with the channel, and driving fasteners through the flanges to secure the strip to the soffit. Stucco reinforcement mesh may be secured across the flanges and the soffit and stucco spread thereon to complete the installation. In an alternative embodiment, the upper surface of the flanges may be provided with adhesive and a removable strip. The removable strip can be removed and the flanges pressed against the soffit to secure the ventilations strip to a soffit without the use of fasteners. The tapered edge of the flange enables the edges of the ventilation strip to blend easily with the soffit to create an attractive soffit vent thereon.

A soffit vent comprising a base having opposing elongated edges, a pair of parallel flanges extending upwardly from the base intermediate the elongated edges and defining: 1) a vent zone in the base characterized by the presence of vent holes in the base; and 2) attachment flanges formed by portions of the base extending beyond the location of the parallel upwardly extending flanges, the attachment flanges including holes therein for the insertion of attachment devices. A method for installing the soffit vent of the present invention in an EIFS or DEFS structure comprising locating the soffit vent in the appropriate location between a pair of insulating members in the EIFS or DEFS structure, attaching the soffit vent to the structure by the insertion of a suitable fastener through the apertures in the attachment flanges and into the foam insulation.

Soffit vent

An improved curtain wall casing bead for installation on buildings having stucco or similar curtain wall exteriors. The improved curtain wall casing bead incorporates a mesh attached to at least the front wall of the casing or starter bead, which mesh extends beyond the height of the front wall and provides additional area for the infiltration of over-applied stucco finishes or the like. Such additional infiltration, after drying of the over-applied layer provides a more adherent, higher quality and more durable attachment of the stucco finish to the casing bead and the overall wall structure is achieved.

An end dam for a generally U-shaped moisture management channel comprising: a vertical wall having a front and a rear surface and a base edge; a first flange extending at a right angle from the rear surface in the area of the vertical wall base edge, integrally formed therewith, and having a distal edge and a base edge; and a second flange having a base edge extending from and integrally formed with the rear wall, spaced apart from the first flange and extending angularly away from the rear surface toward said first flange distal edge to define a slot between the first and second flanges. The first and second flanges of the end dam frictionally engage the base or bottom of a generally U-shaped moisture management channel causing the vertical wall to abut the sidewalls of such a device.

An improved moisture management system for installation over doors and windows in buildings that included exterior, stucco-covered, curtain walls comprising an integrally formed, three sided, elongated track including a base, an upright front wall that includes at its base weep holes for the removal of entrained moisture as well as a longitudinal forward extending finish stop above the weep holes, and an upright rear wall at opposing elongated edges of the base, and, extending angularly downward from the outside of the base, and integrally formed therewith, a drip plate that permits ready drainage of water exiting the moisture management system through the weep holes in the upright front wall. Preferably, elongated striations in the front faces of both the front and rear upright walls as well as holes in the upright front wall above the finish stop provide improved adherence of sealants and adhesives used in the installation process.

A flexible and resilient plastic corner bead of the type used in the installation of gypsum, foam and other similar construction board comprising a pair of integral flanges joined by an integrally formed plastic hinge and having adhered to at least one surface thereof, a fiberglass mesh that extends beyond the lateral edges of the flanges of the corner bead.

A moisture management system for installation over doors and windows in buildings that included exterior, stucco-covered, curtain walls comprising an integrally formed, three sided, elongated track including a base having weep holes therein, an upright front wall and an upright rear wall at opposing elongated edges of the base, and, extending angularly downward from the outside of the base, and integrally formed therewith, a drip plate that permits ready drainage of water entering the moisture management system through the weep holes in the base. Elongated striations in the front faces of both the front and rear upright walls as well as holes in the front upright wall provide adherence of sealants and adhesives used in the installation process.

A corner bead comprising an arcuately profiled elongated central portion having two lateral edges and defining a concave and a convex surface, flanges extending from each of the lateral edges and unitarily formed therewith. The concave surface includes a pair of longitudinal rails extending at about 90&deg; one from the other at the geometrical centerline of the concave surface and serve to align the corner bead of the present invention with the underlying drywall when applied over a drywall corner in the conventional fashion.

Self-aligning drywall corner bead

A drywall reveal and retaining clip for assuring proper alignment of abutting drywall reveal sections. The retaining clip comprises a generally U-shaped channel that engages the rear of two abutting ends of similarly shaped drywall reveal and by engagement of longitudinal ribs on the retaining clip with mating longitudinal channels on the drywall reveal provides a joint that aligns the abutting drywall reveal ends and inhibits any relative movement therebetween.

There is described an improved flashing system for exterior doors and windows. The system comprises a header, right and left hand vertical drainage channels and right and left hand corner sections which join the header to the vertical channels on either side of the door or window. The header is designed to provide normal protection for the top of the door or window from water infiltration and also provides at the rear thereof a dam and weep holes for removal of any rainwater which may infiltrate between the flashing and applied siding. The system design provides a continuous channel to conduct any infiltrating water from the header via the corner sections to the vertical channels wherefrom it drains downward and is harmlessly removed at the base of the window or door.

Flashing system

A sill support for protecting the sill of a window or door in new or retrofit construction which minimizes the need for on-site fabrication and comprises left and right end dam sections that engage a center connecting member of variable length depending upon the width of the door or window opening being treated.
