Precipitated silica comprising porous silica particles having a cumulative surface area for all pores having diameters greater than 500 &#x212b; of less than 8 m/g, as measured by mercury intrusion, and a percentage cetylpyridinium chloride (% CPC) Compatibility of greater than about 55%. The precipitated silica product is especially well-adapted for use in dentifrices containing cetylpyridinium chloride, which do not attach to the low surface area silica product in a meaningful level and thus remain available for antimicrobial action. Processes for making the silica product are also provided.

Precipitated silica product, dentifrices containing same, and processes

An abrasive, amorphous precipitated silica is provided that provides excellent abrasive performance, but also has a relatively high degree of transmittance, and an index of refraction that is sufficiently low to allow it to be a component of a transparent toothpaste composition having a relatively high concentration of water. The amorphous precipitated silica composition has a refractive index of less than about 1.4387, a light transmittance of greater than about 48%; and a Brass Einlehner abrasion value of greater than about 5 mg loss/100,000 rev. A dentifrice having a haze value of less than about 70 may be prepared using this abrasive, amorphous silica.

Precipitated silicas

Precipitated silica product having low surface area and enhanced flavor compatibility. The precipitated silica product is especially well-adapted for use in dentifrices containing cetylpyridinium chloride, which do not attach to the low surface area silica product in a meaningful level and thus remain available for antimicrobial action. Processes for making the low surface area silica product are also provided.

Precipitated silica product with low surface area, dentifrices containing same, and processes

A transparent dentifrice is provided that has excellent abrasive performance. The dentifrice comprises from about 10 wt % to about 13 wt % water, and an abrasive, low-structure, precipitated silica having: a refractive index of from about 1.439 to 1.450, an oil absorption of from about 90 ml/100 g to about 120 ml/100 g, a light transmittance of greater than about 60%; and a Brass Einlehner abrasion value of less than about 5 mg loss/100,000 rev. Additionally the dentifrice has: a haze value of less than about 50; an RDA of about 50 to 200; and a refractive index of from about 1.439 to 1.450.

Abrasive compositions for clear toothpaste

Calcium phosphate colorants are provided that comprise calcium phosphate particles, a dye, and aluminum hydroxide and which are resistant to dye migration and suitable for use in food, drugs and cosmetics. The calcium phosphate particles are coated with a dye and the dye is fixed to the particles by the aluminum hydroxide. Also provided is a method for making a calcium phosphate colorant in which aluminum hydroxide is mixed with a calcium phosphate slurry to deposit aluminum hydroxide onto the calcium phosphate particles contained within the slurry.

Transparent dentifrices

There is provided a method of adhering dye to a silica. The method comprises providing a silica slurry which includes a plurality of silica particles, depositing alum in the pores of the silica particles, reacting a base with the alum to convert the alum into aluminum hydroxide resulting in treated silica particles. The treated silica particles are then filtered and washed. Thereafter, a dye is mixed with the treated silica particles. The resultant dyed silica product is resistant to dye migration.

Color containing silica resistant to dye migration and method of making

A dentifrice containing a dye absorbing silica which imparts a speckled appearance in toothpaste or gel formulations. The dye absorbing silica comprises silica granules which have a linseed oil absorption of at least about 150 cc/100 g, an average particle size of about 400 .mu.m to about 600 .mu.m, an attrition value of less than 30%, and a pH of about 6 to about 8.

Dentifrice with a dye absorbing silica for imparting a speckled

Plastic compositions which contain zeolite particles as fillers which have particle sizes of no more than 2.2 microns in diameter with at least 90 percent of the weight of the particles being between 0.1 and 5.0 microns in diameter.

Plastic compositions containing small particle size zeolites and mixtures

The filtration of zeolites, for example sodium alumino silicates, from aqueous slurries containing the zeolites is improved by washing the filter cake with an aqueous solution of any salt which has the capacity to produce a stabilized slurry of the zeolite. Suitable salts include alkali metal carbonates, bicarbonates, sulphates and salts of organic acids.

Rubber compositions which contain zeolite particles having particle sizes of no more than 1.6 microns in diameter with at least 90% of the weight of the particles being between 0.1 and 3.2 microns in diameter, a binding agent, water, and a solubilizing agent.

Sodium silicate solutions are prepared by dissolving sand in sodium hydroxide solution at a pressure of at least 100 psig and at a temperature of at least 130.degree. C. to produce a sodium silicate solution having a silica to sodium oxide molar ratio of between 2.4:1 and 2.8:1, and activating said sodium silicate solution by reaction with from about 50 to 200 ppm of alumina.

Preparation of sodium silicate solutions

Zeolites of small and uniform size are formed having high magnesium exchange capacities. Zeolite A is disclosed having an average particle size less than 1.7 microns, a calcium carbonate exchange capacity of more than 230 mg calcium carbonate per gram zeolite and a magnesium exchange capacity of more than 140 mg magnesium carbonate per gram zeolite. This zeolite A is produced from a reaction mixture having a water to sodium oxide molar ratio of less than 35:1, and a sodium oxide to silica molar ratio of between 1:1 and 4:1, wherein the silica to alumina molar ratio is greater than 3:1 when the sodium oxide to silica molar ratio is less than 4:3 and the sodium oxide to alumina molar ratio is greater than 4:1 when the sodium oxide to silica molar ratio is greater than 4:3. Zeolite X is disclosed having an average particle size less than 2.2 microns, a calcium carbonate exchange capacity of more than 205 mg calcium carbonate per gram zeolite, and a magnesium exchange capacity of more than 130 mg magnesium carbonate per gram zeolite. This zeolite X is produced from a reaction mixture having a silicate alumina molar ratio greater than 5:1. A combination of zeolite A and zeolite X can be produced from the same reaction mixture.

Synthesis of zeolites of small and uniform size having a high magnesium

Zeolites of small and uniform size are formed having high magnesium exchange capacities. Zeolite A is disclosed having an average particle size less than 1.7 microns, a calcium carbonate exchange capacity of more than 230 mg calcium carbonate per gram zeolite and a magnesium exchange capacity of more than 140 mg magnesium carbonate per gram zeolite. This zeolite A is produced from a reaction mixture having a water to sodium oxide molar ratio of less than 35:1, and a sodium oxide to silica molar ratio of between 1:1 and 4:1, wherein the silica to alumina molar ratio is greater than 3:1 when the sodium oxide to silica molar ratio is less than 4:3 and the sodium oxide to alumina molar ratio is greater than 4:1 when the sodium oxide to silica molar ratio is greater than 4:3. Zeolite X is disclosed having an average particle size less than 2.2 microns, a calcium carbonate exchange capacity of more than 205 mg calcium carbonate per gram zeolite, and a magnesium exchange capacity of more than 130 mg magnesium carbonate per gram zeolite. This zeolite X is produced from a reaction mixture having a silicate alumina molar ratio greater than 5:1. A combination of zerolite A and zeolite X can be produced from the same reaction mixture.
