An open ended ostomy pouch having a folding bar attached to the bottom of the pouch. The folding bar extends on both sides beyond the width of the pouch at the bottom opening and includes interlocking closure components on opposite ends.

An adhesive composition adapted for use with an ostomy appliance consisting of a mixture of a hydrocolloid gum, a pressure sensitive adhesive, and a cohesive strengthening agent. The cohesive strengthening agent is either an inert natural or synthetic fibrous material, finely divided cellulose, a cross-linked dextran, a cross-linked carboxymethylcellulose, or a starch-acrylonitrile graft copolymer.

Corticosteroid formulations in the form of creams, lotions or ointments are provided which are used as anti-inflammatory agents, wherein the corticosteroid, such as halcinonide (21-chloro-9-fluoro-11.beta.-hydroxy-16.alpha.,17-[(1-methylethylidene)-bi s(oxy)]pregn-4-ene-3,20-dione) is dissolved in a sebacate carrier, such as dibutyl sebacate.

A composition adapted for use around the stoma consisting of a homogeneous mixture of a pressure sensitive adhesive component, mineral oil, and hydrocolloid gums or cohesive strengthening agents or a mixture of hydrocolloid gums and cohesive strengthening agents. By controlling the amount of mineral oil the resulting composition can be easily shaped according to the particular need.

Ostomy composition

A method is provided for reducing and substantially eliminating the presence of oxygen in a sealed container or package, which method includes the step of disposing or placing a drying oil, such as linseed oil, in the sealed container, for example, in the form of a small capsule having one or more openings and containing linseed oil absorbed on a spongy substrate or particulate material. The oxygen in the container will react with the linseed oil and thereby be removed from the container atmosphere. In addition, a foraminous capsule is provided containing drying oil, such as linseed oil, sorbed on a porous or particulate substrate, for use in carrying out the above method. A method is also provided for measuring the rate of oxygen transmission through a film or package walls or into a container employing drying oils as described above.
