A marine drive is for propelling a marine vessel. The marine drive has a propulsor configured to generate a thrust force in a body of water; a battery that powers the propulsor; and a supporting frame which supports the marine drive relative to marine vessel. The supporting frame has a monolithic body defining a frame interior, and further has a support leg extending downwardly from the monolithic body and a steering arm extending forwardly from monolithic body. A cowling is fixed to the supporting frame via at least one hidden fastener that extends from the frame interior, through the supporting frame, and into engagement with the cowl body, wherein hidden fastener being accessible during installation.

The marine drive has a propulsor configured to generate a thrust force in a body of water, an electric motor which powers the propulsor, a battery having a battery port for outputting battery power, a supporting frame which supports the marine drive relative to marine vessel, the supporting frame having a frame interior which retains the batter, and a cowling on the supporting frame. The cowling has a first cowl portion and a second cowl portion which is movable relative to the first cowl portion into a closed position enclosing the supporting frame and the battery in a cowling interior and alternately into an open position providing access to the cowling interior enabling insertion and removal of the battery.

A marine drive is configured for propelling a marine vessel in a body of water. The marine drive has a transom bracket assembly configured to mount the marine drive to the marine vessel, a drive assembly coupled to the transom bracket assembly and configured to generate a thrust force in the body of water, the drive assembly being trimmable up and down relative to the transom bracket assembly, a cooling water pump configured to pump cooling water from the body of the water for cooling at least one component of the marine drive, and a rigid cooling water conduit extending from the drive assembly to the transom bracket assembly, the rigid cooling water conduit being configured to convey the cooling water from the drive assembly to the cooling water pump.

The carrying tray comprises a plurality of latching device cavities configured to retain a plurality of latching devices in a spaced-apart orientation that positions each respective latching device with respect to its mounting position on the cowl so that the respective latching device can be directly installed onto the cowl without tangling or damaging the flexible connectors, and an actuator retainer that retains an actuator in a position with respect to its mounting position on the cowl so that the actuator can be directly installed onto the cowl without tangling or damaging the flexible connectors.

A rigging hose housing is provided to couple a rigging hose to a marine vessel. The rigging hose housing includes a radial mounting plate; an outer cylindrical wall extending perpendicularly from the radial mounting plate a first height above a bottom surface of the radial mounting plate; an inner cylindrical wall extending perpendicularly from the radial mounting plate a second height above the bottom surface of the radial mounting plate; and a gutter formed between the inner cylindrical wall and the outer cylindrical wall. The gutter terminates in a drain hole formed in the outer cylindrical wall. The drain hole is configured to permit the expulsion of fluid collected in the gutter from the rigging hose housing.

An outboard motor having an internal combustion engine that rotates a driveshaft disposed in a driveshaft housing, a transmission that is operatively connected to the driveshaft and is disposed in a transmission housing located below the driveshaft housing, a set of angle gears that operatively connect the transmission to a propulsor for imparting a propulsive force in a body of water, wherein the set of angle gears are located in a lower gearcase located below the transmission housing, and a lubrication system that circulates lubricant to and from the transmission.

A system for controlling trim position of a marine propulsion device on a marine vessel includes a trim actuator having a first end configured to couple to the marine propulsion device and a second end configured to couple to the marine vessel. A controller controls position of the trim actuator between an extended position wherein the propulsion device is trimmed up with respect to the vessel and a retracted position wherein the propulsion device is trimmed down with respect to the vessel. A shock relief mechanism overrides position control by the controller and allows extension of the trim actuator upon the occurrence of an overpressure event. An arresting mechanism, when activated, prevents extension of the trim actuator beyond a certain limit. The controller selectively activates the arresting mechanism in response to a determination that the propulsion device is being commanded in reverse. Methods for controlling trim position are also included.

Systems and methods for controlling trim position of a marine propulsion device on a marine vessel

A steering actuator is for steering an outboard marine engine about a steering axis. The steering actuator comprises a housing; a piston device that is disposed in the housing, wherein hydraulic actuation of the piston device causes the outboard marine engine to pivot about the steering axis; and a valve device that is disposed in the housing. The valve device controls a flow of a hydraulic fluid to move the piston device in a first piston direction and to move the piston device in an opposite, second piston direction. Movement of the piston device in the first piston direction causes the outboard marine engine to pivot in a first pivot direction and movement of the piston device in the second piston direction causes the outboard marine engine to pivot in an opposite, second pivot direction.

A stern drive for a marine vessel comprises a gimbal housing that is configured for connection to the transom of the marine vessel; a gimbal ring that is steerable with respect to the gimbal housing about a vertical steering axis; a drive leg that is trimmable with respect to the gimbal ring about a horizontal trim axis, wherein the drive leg supports a propulsor for propelling the marine vessel; a trim actuator that is configured to trim the drive leg about the trim axis; and a cradle that decouples the drive leg from the transom of the marine vessel and pivots with and supports the drive leg and as the trim actuator trims the drive leg about the trim axis.
