A system and method for intermixing the contents of two containers. The system includes a first container, a second container, and a connector for providing fluid communication between the first and second containers. The connector includes at least one resilient retention member for securing the first container to the connector. In addition, the connector accommodates standard vials containing, for example, medicaments, and prevents the unwanted discharge of the contents of the vial into the environment.

System and method for intermixing the contents of two containers

In one aspect, the invention is directed to a port assembly for establishing fluid communication between a first container and a second container. The port assembly includes a retainer for connecting a first container, where the retainer is positioned in a cavity defined by a port housing that includes an axially fixed actuator. The housing also includes a plug member constructed to seal a fluid passageway between the port housing and an interior of a second container. The plug member is configured to move axially relative to the actuator. Rotation of the retainer relative to the actuator causes the plug member to move to an open position in which it does not seal a fluid passageway between the port housing and an interior of a second container. The rotation of the retainer relative to the port housing also causes the retainer to move axially relative to the port housing so that the actuator forces a stopper associated with a first container connected to the retainer into a first container.

Port assembly for mixing the contents of two containers

A system for mixing the contents of a first container and a second container. The system includes the first container that has container body with an opening fluidly connected to a cavity defined by the container body, a first substance contained in the cavity, and a stopper sealing the opening. The second container includes a port assembly including a port housing connected to the second container and a retainer constructed to connect to the first container. The retainer is configured to rotate and move axially relative to the port housing, wherein relative rotation between the port housing and the retainer causes the retainer to move axially relative to the port housing. The port assembly further includes an axially fixed actuator constructed to force the stopper into the first container when the retainer is rotated relative to the port housing.

A port assembly for establishing fluid communication between a first container and a second container. The port assembly includes a port housing for connection to a second container, and a retainer for connection to a first container, wherein the retainer rotates relative to the port housing and is constructed to move axially within the port housing. An actuator is axially fixed within the port housing and forces a stopper associated with a first container into a first container when the retainer moves axially within the port housing upon rotation of the retainer relative to the port housing. The assembly is configured to establish fluid communication between a first container and a second container upon rotation of the retainer relative to the port housing.

Medical fluid container

A single-use, clamshell protective cap for use primarily in healthcare settings in order to maintain the integrity of a medication solution. The cap has two halves, a cylindrical skirt, a puncture resistant lid portion, an interior flange, and an interlocking snap. When placed around a flanged injection port such as is found on a conventional fluid container and closed, the lid portion covers an access site on an injection port. After the cap is placed, the interior flange engages the port flange to prevent upward axial movement relative to the port, thereby preventing removal of the cap and thus deterring unwanted or erroneous drug administrations or withdrawals.

A port closure system for use with a fluid container having fluid ports includes administrative and additive port closure assemblies. The administrative assembly receives a piercing pin and includes an administrative housing which seals closed one fluid port. A sleeve extends from an interior surface past a base surface in the administrative housing. The sleeve has an upper portion and a lower portion, of differing diameters. A cap assembly mates with the administrative housing, sealing the interior surface of the administrative housing. A removable cap provides access to the interior surface. The additive assembly receives a needle and includes a reseal housing which seals closed another fluid port. Another cap assembly mates with the reseal housing, sealing an interior face of the reseal housing. Another removable cap provides access to the interior face. A reseal element is mechanically retained between the reseal housing and cap assembly.

An injector device for a pharmaceutical cartridge. The injector device includes a body defining a space for receiving a pharmaceutical cartridge. One or more retention members are disposed on the outer surface of the body. The injector device further includes a plunger rod having a connection member constructed for connection to a piston associated with a cartridge. The plunger rod has one or more receiving members. constructed to cooperatively retain the plunger rod on the body in a first position, and to release the plunger rod from the body when the plunger rod is moved to a second position. The plunger rod further includes a surface for engaging a pharmaceutical cartridge positioned within the body of said injector and for moving a pharmaceutical cartridge distally as the plunger rod is moved from its first position to its second position. A tamper evident band is secured to plunger rod and injector body.

The plunger rod has one or more receiving members constructed to cooperatively retain the plunger rod on the body in a first position, and to release the plunger rod from the body when the plunger rod is moved to a second position. The plunger rod further includes a surface for engaging a pharmaceutical cartridge positioned within the body of said injector and for moving a pharmaceutical cartridge distally as the plunger rod is moved from its first position to its second position, thereby activating the cartridge.
