Risk of visual impairment including Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD) and cataracts increase with age. This increased risk can be caused by changes in the structure and function of the eye or changes in structures of the central nervous system that support visual perception. The present invention comprises fruit flavored, chewable formulations of supplements for reducing the risk of AMD. Chewable dosage forms of the invention are preferred over other formulations and may increase compliance in an aging population, who are more likely to require an eye health supplement and have an increased risk of experiencing dysphagia.

Chewable eye health formulation

Compositions are disclosed for improved sleep quality and quantity including ingredients for both immediate release and controlled release. The invention provides improved supplemental compositions, and methods for administering same to a user, for enhancing the onset, quality, and duration of sleep in humans and animals. The supplemental composition may contain a combination of ingredients in proportions calculated to relieve stress, promote relaxation, and enhance sleep, including at least the following ingredients: L-Theanine, Skullcap Herb (L.), Rhodiola (L.), and Chamomile Flower (). In addition, the supplemental composition may include the secondary ingredient Melatonin. The selection and amounts of the ingredients of the supplemental composition promote sleep onset, quality, and duration and may be provided for consumption at least one time daily, e.g., prior to sleep. The composition may be in a layered solid dosage form to provide controlled and sustained release of specific ingredients.

Methods for determining need for treating a vehicle travel surface include sensing, at a first time, a characteristic of a vehicle travel surface from a mobile sensor. Sensed characteristics include temperature, friction coefficient, material volumetric buildup, e.g., composition, such as an amount or percentage of ice or snow, density, depth, freeze point and chemical concentrations. The sensed characteristic is recorded as a first measurement in a database, and GIS information correlating a location with the first measurement is attached. The characteristic of the vehicle travel surface is sensed at a second time, at the location, and recorded in the database, for example as a second measurement. GIS information correlating the location with the second measurement may be attached, and the first and second measurements compared.

Systems and method for monitoring and controlling a vehicle travel surface

A surface condition sensing and treatment system includes a transmitter for transmitting electromagnetic radiation (EMR) toward a surface material disposed upon a vehicle travel surface. Reflected EMR is received and signals indicative of the reflected EMR are processed to produce output corresponding to a characteristic of the surface material. Characteristics include friction, depth and composition, including ice present in the surface material. Sensing may be locally or remotely, automatically or manually initiated. The system may include a display and at least one computer with a database of surface material characteristics, historical, environmental and GIS positional information. Sensed characteristics processed with database information may determine a surface treatment, according to a selected outcome or level of service. A spreader system applies the surface treatment responsive to local, remote, automatic or manual command. The system may be mounted with a vehicle, and may sense surface conditions while the vehicle is in motion.

A method and apparatus for forming annularly-corrugated tubes and cables utilizing a multiple gear corrugating head which is rotated about the tube or cable, to be corrugated as the tube or cable is drawn through the head. Two or more of the gears each have a different prime number of gear teeth which form the corrugation. A wire twisting machine and method provide a randomly varying lay to pairs of twisted wires forming a cable. A pair of wires are fed into a motor driven bow mechanism which twists the wires at a given rate of speed. The bow winding speed is sensed to provide a signal to a control system employing a computer which generates a randomly varying signal between a selected minimum and maximum range. The random signal is applied to an oscillator which provides a varying frequency signal to a power supply unit. A pulsed direct voltage signal then controls a stepping motor which applies the randomly varying lay signal to vary the speed of the capstan winding the wires with respect to the independent bow speed. This varies the length of lay of the twisted wires within controlled limits.
