A composition that optimizes the performance and maintenance of halogenated dry cleaning solvents is disclosed. One embodiment of a detergent composition for use with halogenated dry cleaning solvents includes water, a surfactant, a solubilizer, a coupling agent, an acid-accepting stabilizer, and a halogenated solvent. Optionally, the composition can include an oil-based fragrance and/or an optical brightener. When used in a dry cleaning process, the detergent composition replenishes the acid-accepting stabilizer depleted from the dry cleaning solvent and the halogenated solvent suppresses the flash point of the acid-accepting stabilizer.

Detergent composition for halogenated dry cleaning solvents

Various cleaning compositions useful in cleaning oil and carbon residue encrusted metallic surfaces are described. The specific formulations of the present invention may include a variety of non-corrosive and non-hazardous materials which include an aliphatic ether of a propylene glycol and/or an ester thereof, an alkanolamine, an aliphatic fatty acid blend, an alkyl pyrrolidone, water and, in some applications, a mild caustic such as ammonium hydroxide, for example. The various formulations of the present invention combine their ability to dissolve or emulsify a combination of deposits commonly found on auto and aircraft engines and the like. These formulations are most effective in removing or dissolving soils, such as oils, greases, varnishes and like residue from oil, fuel, solvents and other sources. The particular formulations of the present invention are generally non-corrosive to metal surfaces, such as iron, steel, aluminum and aluminum alloys, die cast materials, such as zinc or zinc related materials or other miscellaneous non-ferrous materials, such as brass and bronze parts containing copper and tin, for example.

Cleaning compositions and methods

An aluminum cleaning composition and method of cleaning aluminum cooking articles. The composition comprises 0.6 to 3.5 parts by weight of a strong alkali metal hydroxide, from about 0.08 to 0.2% of calcium ion, from about 0.2 to about 3.0 parts by weight of sucrose, 0.5 to 1.5 parts by weight of citrate ion from sodium citrate, and up to about 5% of an organic antifoaming agent. A surfactant, preferably nonionic, may be added to or used with the composition.

Compositions for cleaning aluminum

Compositions and methods for cleaning the surface of aluminum articles encrusted with cooked-on grease, oil and protein residues. The method includes immersing aluminum cookware in a solution of about 50 to about 75 parts by weight of water, about 2 to about 5 parts by weight of a strong alkali metal hydroxide, from about 1/2 to about 2 parts by weight of calcium chloride, from about 2 to about 4 parts by weight of sucrose, from about 0.05 to about 0.2 parts by weight of a non-ionic surface active agent and from about 0.2 to about 0.5 parts of an anti-foaming agent. The articles may be soaked for 12 to 24 hours without damage.
