An inflation garment for the treatment of DVT is operated by a portable, battery powered air pump and controller detachably mounted on the inflation garment. The controller is formed with hook-fastening devices on the bottom surface of the controller that is detachably engagable with the material on the outer surface of the inflation garment. To mount the controller, the inflation garment is folded to expose the air inlet and outlet ports on the inflation garment to facilitate the operative attachment of the controller ports, then the inflation garment is unfolded and pressed against the bottom surface of the controller to engage the hook fasteners with the material of the inflation garment. A supplemental support is provided to wrap at least partially around the inflation garment to enhance the support of the inflation garment on the patient's limb without slipping.

Inflation garment having a portable controller for treatment of DVT

An inflation garment for the treatment of DVT is operated by a portable, battery powered air pump and controller detachably mounted on an interface plate incorporated into the inflation garment. The interface plate is formed with outwardly projecting mounting spikes that are engagable with openings in the controller housing to affect a detachable mounting of the housing to the interface plate. The air inlet and discharge receivers on the housing are asymmetrically oriented to promote proper mounting of the controller on the inflation garment. The air inlet and discharge receivers are engagable with inlet and discharge ports in the interface plate. For the multiple chamber inflation garment utilizing the battery powered detachable air pump and controller, the inflation chambers are provided with valves between adjoining chambers that allow sequential pressurizing of the inflation chambers and a simultaneous discharge of air from the chambers to complete a therapy cycle.

A system for monitoring the use of a home-based medical apparatus providing medical therapy to a patient incorporates communication technology to permit communication from the operated component of the medical apparatus to a central station through one or more of Bluetooth&#xae; telephone communications, Smart Phone communications, Internet communications through a network, or other known or forthcoming communication devices. The operated medical apparatus can report any operational function to the central station for monitoring by medical professionals or caregivers, including the timing of any operation of the apparatus, the duration of operation, the effectiveness of the therapy, and malfunctions in the operation of the apparatus. The monitoring system is particularly adapted for use with inflation garment therapy and negative pressure wound therapy systems. The medical apparatus can also be provided with an RFD tag so that the medical apparatus, and perhaps the patient using the medical apparatus, can be found.

System for monitoring the use of medical devices

An integrated negative pressure bandage is constructed with a non-woven polyurethane matrix pad secured on the outside surface to a sheet of polyurethane film formed with an outer adhesive boundary to establish a seal against the skin of the patient around the wound site. The inner surface of the non-woven matrix pad is covered with a silver nitrate mesh to promote healing of the wound site when the bandage is placed on top of the wound. A drain tube is contained within the non-woven matrix pad for connection with a source of negative pressure to draw the fluids and exudates from the wound for removal to a canister that is located remotely from the bandage. Contoured versions of the integrated bandage are provided for use on portions of the human body that present difficult locations for applications of negative pressure therapy, including the toes, heel, limbs, and sacral region.
