A method for transferring an electronic component supported by a carrier to a desired position on a substrate include moving the carrier supporting the component relative to the substrate while the component is present on a side of the carrier facing towards the substrate, with the component is positioned opposite the desired position on the substrate. Then, a light beam is directed at the carrier, at the location of the component, from a side remote from the substrate, as a result of which a connection between the component and the carrier is broken and the component is transferred from the carrier to the substrate.

The device has a carrier and an electric element. The carrier has a first and an opposed side and is provided with an connection layer, an intermediate layer and contact pads. The element is present at the first side and coupled to the connection layer. It is at least partially encapsulated by an encapsulation that extends into isolation areas between patterns in the intermediate layer. A protective layer is present at the second side of the carrier, which covers an interface between the contact pads and the intermediate layer.

Electronic device and method of manufacturing thereof

The present invention relates to a laser projection system () having means for reducing the coherence of a generated laser beam () in order to reduce the occurrence of annoying speckle artifacts in images produced by the system. Coherence is reduced by letting the laser beam () pass through a transparent cell () comprising first (A) and second (B) immiscible fluids having different refractive indices. The fluids are displaced in the cell, preferably using an electrowetting technique. The cell () may thus be realized as an electrowetting lens, which is driven with a pseudo random driving signal.

An electrowetting cell including an expandable joint between a body section and an end section. Such an expandable joint could include a membrane or a flange-like portion.

Electrowetting cells

The invention relates to an opto-electronic input device (), wherein the input is formed by detected movements of an object (M), which opto-electronic input device is provided with an optical module () comprising at least one laser () mounted on a carrier plate (), which laser emits a radiation beam (S) that is guided to a plate (V) close to the object (M) and, after reflection therefrom, causes a change in the resonant cavity of the laser () which is representative of the movement of the object (M), and which is measured within the module (). According to the invention, the plate (V) close to the object (M) comprises, within a projection of the object (M), a first portion (VI) through which the beam (S) can pass and which has a fixed position with respect to the carrier plate (), and a second portion (V) which is movable in a direction perpendicular to the carrier plate () and which comprises signal means which, when they are moved, provide a signal that is observable by a user of the device (). In this way, the device () provides feedback to a human user through his tactile sense and preferably also through his auditory sense. The invention also comprises a method of manufacturing such a device and a method of inputting the movement of an object (M) using such a device.

Opto-electronic input device, method of manufacturing such a device and method of measuring the movement of an object by means of such a device

The invention relates to an electric insulating body () provided with a conductor pattern () and an electronic device () comprising such a body () and at least one electronic element (). According to the invention, the body () has first and second faces (A,B) in between of which an angle of less than 180 degrees is defined, wherein the conductor pattern () of the body () extends over both faces (A,B), which body () carries both the conductor pattern () and the electronic element (). The conductor pattern () comprises strip-shaped regions (A) and regions (B) with a larger width than the strip-shaped regions (A), which regions (B) are suitable for electrically contacting the electronic element (). The electronic element () is, for example, a camera. The device () with such a camera is particularly suitable for use in a mobile communication apparatus.

Electrically insulating body, and electronic device

Provided is a device, an assembly comprising said device, a sub-assembly and an element suitable for use in the assembly. The device comprises a body of an electrically insulating material having a first side and an opposite second side, the body being provided with conductors according to a desired pattern, said conductors being anchored in the body. The body is provided with a through-hole extending from the first side to the second side of the body and having a surfacial area which is smaller on the first side than on the second side. Such a device can very suitably be used in an assembly comprising an element which is a sensor, preferably a chemical sensor, and particularly a biosensor.

Device, system and electric element

The electronic product comprises a body with a three-dimensional shape that is derived from the product. The body is provided with a pattern of conductors including contact pads and at least one electric element, in which the conductors are mechanically anchored in the body. It is preferably provided with attachment means for any carrier or external component. The pattern of conductors is primarily provided at the surface of the body. Conductors can be hidden inside the body, by removing in that area a releasable layer attached to the conductors before instead of after the molding process.

Electronic product, a body and a method of manufacturing

The device has a carrier and an electric element. The carrier has a first and an opposed side and is provided with a connection layer, an intermediate layer and contact pads. The element is present at the first side and coupled to the connection layer. Optical apparatus for modifying a radiation beam, the apparatus including a variable focus lens () comprising a first fluid (A) and a second fluid (B) wherein the fluids are immiscible and are separated from each other by a fluid meniscus () which is configurable into a configuration which is arranged to modify a predetermined vergence of an input radiation beam () and a focus control system. The optical apparatus is characterised in that the apparatus comprises a first redirector arranged to redirect the radiation beam, after having passed once through the fluid meniscus, back towards the fluid meniscus, and a second redirector arranged to further redirect the radiation beam, after having passed twice through the meniscus, back towards the fluid meniscus, wherein the configuration is arranged to further modify the vergence of the radiation beam following each of the redirections, the further modifications being arranged to provide the variable focus lens with an amplified focal power.

Variable focus lens

A method of manufacturing a collection of variable focus lenses comprising two electrodes () and a fluid chamber filled with two fluids which are separated by a meniscus, wherein the shape of the meniscus is variable under the influence of a voltage, comprises the following steps: providing an electrically insulating body () having a plurality of through-holes (); applying electrically conducting material to a surface of the body () in order to obtain the electrodes (); covering at least one of the obtained electrodes () by a layer of electrically insulating material; covering an inner surface of a part of the through-holes () with a hydrophobic material; partially sealing these through-holes (); arranging the fluids inside the partially sealed through-holes (); completely sealing the through-holes (); and dividing the body () into portions, such that each portion constitutes a complete lens.

Method of manufacturing a collection of separate variable focus lenses

The sensing device () comprises a first sensing element () having a reference plane (), between which sensing element () and a contacting side () of the device () a predefined angle is present. Conductors couple the sensing element () to external contacting means (). The sensing device () is further provided with a body (), which encapsulates the first sensing element () and at the same time acts as a carrier for the conductors, so that the contacting side () is a face of the body (). The sensing device () may contain more than one sensing element (), which are by preference magneto-resistive sensors. It can be suitably manufactured in that parts (A,B) of the body are rotated with respect to the contacting side (), the parts (A,B) of the body having complementary shapes.

Electronic device mountable onto a substrate using surface mount techniques, and method

A semiconductor device () comprising a semiconductor substrate () and a functional element (), such as a microstrip, an inductor, a coupler or the like, is provided. Herein the functional element () is&#x2014;at least partially&#x2014;present in a conductive patterned layer that is mechanically embedded in isolating material () and that is connected to the substrate () through connection means. In this way, electrical losses through the substrate () are substantially reduced. The device () is provided in that a foil comprising the patterned layer and a carrier layer is applied to the substrate (), after which the space between them is filled with the isolating material () and the carrier layer is removed.

Method of manufacturing an electronic device

The electronic device () comprises a semiconductor element () (e.g. a transistor), an encapsulation () and an electrically conductive layer () with a first and a second contact pad (), used as signal pads, and a third contact pad () used as ground pads. Due to the shape of the contact pads (), the spacing () is continuous, with a small entrance in between of the first and second contact pads (). Consequently, the parasitic inductance is reduced and the device () is suitable for use at frequencies below and above 30 GHz, particularly up to 40 GHz.

Electronic device and use thereof

The electronic device () comprises an electrical element (), for instance a MEMS capacitor or a BAW filter in a cavity () that is protected from the environment by a cover (). The cover () is a patterned layer which is mechanically embedded in isolating material () present beside the cavity () and may further include contact pads (). The device () may be suitably manufactured from an accurately folded foil including a patterned layer and a sacrifice layer. After applying the foil to the cavity () the isolating material () is provided and the sacrifice layer is removed. The patterned layer, or part thereof, stays behind and forms the cover ().
