An electric lamp () comprising a socket (), a lamp bulb () mounted on the socket, in which bulb at least one semiconductor light source () is arranged. Cooling means () comprise at least two facing cooling fins () which are separated by at least one spacing (). Said spacing being open to the environment and extending from the heart of the lamp bulb to the outer surface of the bulb. The lamp comprises a light redistributing, light transmittable wall () for redistributing light; optionally said light redistributing wall comprises separate, discernable wall parts (). For example, each discernable bulb part is shaped like a surface of a half prolate or half oblate ellipse. Thus, a desired double beam or homogeneous, omni-directional light distribution is obtainable.

Electric lamp

Disclosed is an LED-based bulb-type lamp, including a cooling structure and a plurality of LEDs thermally connected to the cooling structure. The lamp includes at least three separate LED arrays oriented substantially parallel to its central longitudinal axis, such that the LEDs are interspersed among a plurality of light-transmission sub-areas of the LED-based lamp. One or more portions of the cooling structure of the lamp extend to its outer surface, as assembled, such that light-transmissive and heat-dissipating areas are spread over the outer surface, for example, in an alternating manner.

LED-based electric lamp

The invention provides an illumination device comprising an envelope enclosing a light source, preferably a LED, and a luminescent material. The envelope comprises a transmissive part, and a reflective part, wherein the reflective part comprises a reflective ceramic material. The ceramic material can be used for heat dissipation.

The invention provides an illumination device (), arranged to provide illumination device light (). The illumination device () comprising a light chamber (), an electrically variable scattering element (), and a controller (). The light chamber () contains a light emitting diode () (LED) arranged to emit LED light (); comprises a luminescent material layer () arranged remote from the LED () and arranged to absorb at least part of the LED light () and emit luminescent material emission (); and comprises an exit face (), through which one or more of the LED light () and the luminescent material emission () may escape to the exterior () of the light chamber () thereby providing illumination device light (). The electrically variable scattering element () is arranged downstream of the luminescent material layer () and upstream of the exit face (). The controller () is electrically connected to the electrically variable scattering element () and arranged to control the scattering of the electrically variable scattering element (). Such device may allow the possibility of color tuning and/or correlated color temperature tuning of the illumination device light.

A bulb-type LED lamp () has a bulb () mounted on a socket (). A light source (), comprising a plurality of LEDs mounted on a PCB (), is arranged inside the bulb (). The PCB () acts as and/or is connected to cooling means (). The outer surface () of the bulb is formed both by light transmittable surface () and/or sub-areas () thereof and the cooling means (), which cooling means extend from inside the bulb into the outer surface of the bulb. Surfaces are mutually flush at locations at the outer surface of the bulb where said surfaces of both the cooling means and the light transmittable sub-areas border each other. The spatial light intensity distribution of the lamp of the invention is significantly improved over the prior art bulb-type LED lamp.

The light generator comprises a housing ( ) with a light source in the form of a plurality of LEDs ( &prime;, . . . ), each having a luminous flux of at least 5 lm during operation. The housing ( ) also comprises a collimating lens ( ) and a Fresnel lens ( ) for focusing the beam generated by the LEDs ( &prime;, . . . ). The light engine is further provided with drive means in a box ( ) for driving the LEDs ( &prime;, . . . ). Preferably, the collimator lens ( ) has a number of sub-lenses ( &prime;, . . . ), the optical axis of each of the sub-lenses coinciding with the optical axis of a respective one of the LEDs ( &prime;, . . .).
