An auxiliary antenna arranged around the discharge vessel of a gas discharge lamp comprising an outer bulb enclosing this discharge vessel is provided on the outer bulb. The advantages of an auxiliary start antenna can thus be enjoyed without being counterbalanced by an increased sodium diffusion.

Gas discharge lamp

The invention relates to a high-pressure discharge lamp provided with a discharge vessel made of glass which encloses a discharge space having an ionizable filling and an electrode. The discharge vessel is provided with a seal which encloses an Mo foil having knife edges and forms a feedthrough for an electric conductor to the electrode. At the location of the foil, the seal has a gastight sealed cavity and a first antenna on the outer side of the cavity. Preferably, a second antenna is placed at the neck where the seal is connected to the discharge vessel. This reduces both hot restrike voltage and hot restrike delay.

A short-arc discharge lamp ( ) is provided with a light-transmitting, gastight lamp vessel ( ), which is provided with an ionizable filling. A first electrode and a second electrode ( ), respectively, are arranged in the lamp vessel ( ) and are each connected to a current conductor of their own ( ), respectively, which issues from the lamp vessel to the exterior. An ignition antenna ( ) is arranged near the lamp vessel, which ignition antenna is connected to a further current conductor ( ). The ignition antenna comprises an antenna vessel ( ) and a further outer electrode ( ), which antenna vessel ( ) is closed in a gastight manner and provided with an ionizable filling, the further outer electrode ( ) being connected to the further current conductor ( ). The antenna encloses an electroconductive element. In this way, very small ignition delays are guaranteed, even if the lamp has been in a dark environment for some time.

A short-arc discharge lamp ( ) is provided with a translucent lamp vessel ( ) which is closed in a gas-tight manner and which is provided with an ionizable fill. A first and a second electrode ( ) are arranged in the lamp vessel ( ) which are each connected to its own current conductor ( ) which extends to outside the lamp vessel. A starting antenna ( ) is arranged near to the lamp vessel, which antenna is connected to a further current conductor ( ). The starting antenna comprises an antenna container ( ) and a further electrode ( ) which antenna container ( ) is closed in a gas-tight manner and contains an ionizable fill, the further electrode ( ) being connected to the further current conductor ( ). This makes it possible to realize a shorter reignition time by means of a higher reignition voltage on the starting antenna while spark-over from the starting antenna ( ) to the lamp vessel ( ) is avoided.
