The present disclosure relates to a computer-implemented method for calibrating an optical system of a surgical microscope, a corresponding computer program, a computer-readable storage medium storing such a program and a computer executing the program, as well as a medical system comprising an electronic data storage device and the aforementioned computer. The present disclosure further relates to a computer-implemented method, a computer program and a system for determining the spatial position of an object to be tracked not only via the surgical microscope, but also via a separate detection system. In case a deviation between the detected spatial positions is recognized, the optical system of the surgical microscope is re-calibrated.

Microscope camera calibration

A method of determining a focal length of a camera and/or of adjusting a viewing direction in a graphical representation of a pre-operative image is provided. The method includes providing uncalibrated camera data of a camera, specifying an initial value of a focal length of the camera, specifying a working distance value of a distance between the camera and the at least part of the tracking system, calculating a distance value of the distance between the camera and the at least part of the tracking system based on the uncalibrated camera data and based on the specified initial value of the focal length of the camera, calculating a change factor based on the specified working distance value and the calculated distance value, and calculating an adapted value of the focal length of the camera based on the initial value of the focal length and based on the change factor.

Intra-operative determination of a focal length of a camera for medical applications

The present disclosure relates to an optical observation device which is controlled in a sterility preserving manner, and to a corresponding controlling program and/or program storage medium. The optical observation device includes a main structure having at least one optical camera, a support structure adapted to variably position the main structure, and a control unit that receives a sequence of images from the at least one optical camera, searches a current image from the sequence of images for a trackable object, tracks the trackable object shown in the sequence of images subsequent to the current image; and controls adjustable properties of AR-content superimposed with the sequence of images in accordance with a motion of the trackable object, wherein the adjustable properties of the AR-content include a location, orientation, and/or size of the AR-content with respect to the sequence of images.

Video based microscope adjustment

The present application relates to an optical observation device which is controlled in a sterility preserving manner, and to a corresponding controlling program and/or program storage medium. The optical observation device includes a main structure having at least one optical camera, a motorized support for positioning the main structure, and a control unit that receives a sequence of images from the at least one optical camera, searches a current image from the sequence of images for a trackable object, tracks the trackable object shown in the sequence of images subsequent to the current image, and controls the motorized support structure.

Disclosed is a computer-implemented method of determining a hypersurface image from a tomographic image data set describing a tomographic image of an anatomical body part. The method encompasses a locally depth-of-view-corrected reconstruction of a volumetric data set (pre-operative image data, like CT or MRI image data), in order to e.g. augment volumetric image data onto e.g. a microscope view, or in the head-up display of the microscope. For the depth correction, a surface model of the actual anatomical surface of the anatomical body part is used which encompasses a hypersurface reconstruction pf the volumetric data set. Thus, the correct information related to the tissue at the current visible surface is overlaid.

A medical tracking method for tracking a spatial position of a medical instrument within a medical workspace including an anatomical structure of a patient. The method includes: acquiring, using a first camera targeted on the medical workspace, instrument position data describing a spatial position of the medical instrument with respect to a first camera; acquiring, using a second camera and at least one optical tracking marker that is adapted to be recognized by the second camera, camera position data describing a spatial position of the first camera with respect to the anatomical structure, determining, based on the instrument position data and the camera position data, tracking data describing the spatial position of the medical instrument with respect to the anatomical structure; and tracking the spatial position of the medical instrument within the medical workspace using the tracking data.

Optical tracking

A computer implemented method and a system for registering and tracking an anatomical structure of a patient. A method includes acquiring a first stereoscopic image dataset including video images having different viewing angles, and providing a first image content showing the anatomical structure; registering the first image dataset to a 3D image dataset showing the anatomical structure; acquiring a second stereoscopic image dataset comprising video images having different viewing angles and providing a second image content showing the anatomical structure, which differs from the first image content; and tracking the anatomical structure based on the second image dataset.

Video based patient registration and tracking

A data processing method performed by a computer for detecting reflections of light pulses, comprising the steps: acquiring a camera signal representing a series of camera images of a camera viewing field; detecting whether the camera signal includes one or more light mark portions within the camera viewing field possibly representing a light pulse reflection; relating the detected light mark portions in the series of camera images to a pre-defined emission pattern of the light pulses; and determining that a light mark portion is a reflected light pulse, if the light mark portion in the series of camera images matches to the pre-defined emission pattern of the light pulses.
