A sewing machine comprises a workpiece presser device having a presser foot and a separate chaining-off foot. There is an independent holding down device for each foot which makes it possible to adjust both the presser foot pressure and also the chaining-off foot pressure by variable resilient forces.

A sewing machine with an arrangement for advancing material for sewing which imparts a lifting and thrust motion to the feed dog. The arrangement for advancing material has a thrust drive which includes a thrust frame that imparts advancing motion of the feed dog. The lifting motion of the feed dog is imparted by a lifting rod that is slidably guided in the thrust frame.

A device for automatically supplying a strip of elastic tape material to a sewing machine under tension. The device uniquely combines a tape supply mechanism, for tractively propelling the tape, and a tape tensioning assembly which guides the tape along a predetermined path of travel while measuring the amount or degree of tape tension. The tape supplied is under the control of the tape tensioning apparatus which may include a mechanism for selectively modulating the degree of tape tension.
