The electric lamp comprises a cap (10) having a housing (11) in a base portion (13) of which holes (14) are present to allow current conductors (3) to extend to contact members (15) of the cap. In the housing (11) a rubber disk (20) is present against the base portion (13), kept pressed against it by a pressing member (30). The rubber disk is pierced by the current conductors (3), sealing the cap and preventing volatile compounds to enter a reflector in which the lamp may be mounted.

Electric lamp

The electric lamp has a getter capable of binding hydrogen, oxygen and stoichiometrically water at a comparatively low temperature. The getter comprises Pd as a first metal, chemically bound to a second metal from the group Zr and Y, the mol. % of the first metal in the getter lying between 0.4 and 15. The getter further comprises chemically bound oxygen, mole 0/mole second metal being 0.02-1.0. The particle size is .ltoreq.40 .mu.m.

The invention relates to an electrochemical cell having a negative electrode of a stable hydride-forming material, in which a high power density at a low temperature and a rapid activation (as a function of the number of charge and discharge cycles) are obtained by adding to the electrochemically active material one or more metals selected from the group formed by Ni, Pd, Pt, Ir and Rh. The activating metal may be added to the bulk of the hydride-forming material or may be provided by substituting it for less noble metals at the surface of the powdered material.

Electrochemical cell

An electrochemical cell having a negative electrode comprising a compound derived from LaNi.sub.5, in which La is optionally substituted by a plateau pressure-increasing element and in which Ni is substituted entirely or partly by a plateau pressure-reducing element, for example, Co and/or Cu, with the object of considerably reducing volume steps and hence crack formation of the intermetallic compound during charging and discharging. Moreover, the corrosion of the intermetallic compound is counteracted by adding small quantities of Al, Cr and/or Si, which metals enhance the formation of a protecting oxide layer.
