This disclosure relates to thermoplastic compositions, in particular polycarbonate thermoplastic compositions containing a surface-treated talc, methods for the manufacture of such compositions, and articles formed from the compositions.

A polyketone composition consisting of a blend of a polyketone and glass fibers having a coating composition thereon having an acrylic functionality. The molded articles of the above composition have improved tensile strength and impact resistance. The coating composition may consist of styrene-acrylonitrile copolymer or blends thereof.

Ketone polymer/fiber compositions

UV-stabilized or other modified polycarbonates are prepared by combining polycarbonate, a radical polymerization initiator and a UV-stabilizer-molecule or other additive such as a flame retardant or IR additive containing a reactive group susceptible to radical attack in a melt. In the melt, the UV-stabilizer or other additive is graft polymerized to the polycarbonate to form a modified polycarbonate. The method can be practiced using bis-phenol-A (BPA) polycarbonates, soft-segment polycarbonates and high heat polycarbonates. The reaction may be performed in an extruder.

In process for making a polyesteramide composition, an alkyl aryl terephthalate ester is formed from a dialkyl terephthalate by transesterification and then reacted with an alkyl diamine to form a bis-ester amide wherein the reaction product containing the bis-ester amide may be directly contacted with an alkyl diamine without the need for purification steps.

Disclosed are polyesteramide resin compositions having amide units of formula (I): ##STR1## and the units of the formula (II): ##STR2## wherein the polyesteramide is substantially devoid of units derived from butane diol.
