The disclosed subject matter describes a method for setting an automatic distance from and behavior with respect to a vehicle in front. The automatic distance can be optimized based on the situation and energy efficiency. A current traffic situation is detected. A traffic situation on a road section yet to be traveled can be predicted. Energy consumption depending on a variation in the distance from the vehicle in front can be measured. A distance from the vehicle in front can be set depending on the currently detected traffic situation, the predicted traffic situation, and the measured energy consumption.

Adaptive distance selection for optimizing efficiency

A motor vehicle has a control element for selecting a vehicle operating mode from a plurality of defined vehicle operating modes. Furthermore, the motor vehicle has at least one drive motor and an electronically controllable, automated transmission, which is operable in at least one automatic program and in at least one manual program. The motor vehicle also has an electric control arrangement and at least one button for triggering a changeover from an automatic program to a manual program. The electronic control arrangement is configured such that, upon activation of the button for triggering a manual program for a predefined minimum duration by the driver, an operating mode, which is not selectable via the control element based on dynamics, independent of the activation of the control element, is automatically activatable and displayable on the display instead of a selectable operating mode.

A drive control system for a motor vehicle operated by electric motor has a drive position selector device and an electronic control unit which is connected to the drive position selector. The drive control system is configured in such a way that when a first alternative automatic drive position is selected a comparatively high, not freely selectable recuperation level can be predefined and crawl mode is deactivated, and when a second alternative automatic drive position is selected at least one constant recuperation level or a sailing mode can be predefined and crawl mode is activated.
