Polymer-ceramic composite articles with relatively low dissipation factor (Df) and relatively high dielectric constant (Dk), as well as polymer-ceramic core-shell powders and pellets adapted for making such composite articles. The ceramic-polymer composites, in powder and/or pellet forms, comprise a plurality of core-shell particles, where: each of the core-shell particles comprises a core and a shell around the core; the core comprises a ceramic that is selected from the group of ceramics consisting of: BaTiO3, SrTiO3, TiO2, CaTiO3, MgTiO3, and combinations of any two or more thereof; and the shell comprises a polymer selected from the group of polymers consisting of: polyetherimide (PEI), polyetherimide (PEI) copolymers, polyphenylene ether (PPE), polyphenylene sulfide (PPS), polyaryl ether ketone (PAEK), polypropylene (PP), polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), perfluoroalkoxy alkane (PFA), fluorinated ethylene propylene (FEP), ethylene tetrafluoroethylene (ETFE), polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF), and ethylene chlorotrifluoroethylene (ECTFE).

A foamable poly carbonate composition comprising 5 to 95 wt % of a poly(siloxane) block copolymer comprising a poly(carbonate-siloxane) comprising 50 to 99 wt % of bisphenol A carbonate units and 1 to 50 wt % of dimethylsiloxane units, each based on the weight of the poly(carbonate-siloxane), a poly(ester-carbonate-siloxane) comprising bisphenol A carbonate units, isophthalate-terephthalate-bisphenol A ester units, and 5 to 200 dimethyl siloxane units, or a combination thereof; 5 to 95 wt % of an auxiliary component comprising a poly(alkylene ester), a poly(ester-carbonate), or a combination thereof, and optionally, a homopolycarbonate; optionally, up to 10 wt % of an additive composition, wherein the composition has a glass transition temperature of 140° C. and below measured using differential scanning calorimetry, and wherein a foamed sample of the composition has an average cell size of 10 nanometers to 20 micrometers.

Low temperature foamable polycarbonate composition and articles thereof

A thermoplastic composition comprises: a copolycarbonate comprising bisphenol A carbonate units and second carbonate units of the formula (I) and optionally, a bisphenol A homopolycarbonate; wherein the second carbonate units are present in an amount of 10 to 49 mol % based on the sum of the moles of the copolycarbonate and the bisphenol A homopolycarbonate, the copolycarbonate comprises less than 2 ppm by weight of each of an ion of lithium, sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium, ammonium, chlorine, bromine, fluorine, nitrite, nitrate, phosphite, phosphate, sulfate, formate, acetate, citrate, oxalate, trimethylammonium, and triethylammonium, as measured by ion chromatography, and the thermoplastic composition has a bisphenol A purity of at least 99.6%, or at least 99.7% as determined by high performance liquid chromatography. The thermoplastic composition has a Vicat B120 of 155&#xb0; C. or higher; and an increase in yellowness index of less than 10 during 1000 hours of heat aging at 155&#xb0; C.

A lens containing a polycarbonate composition is disclosed. The polycarbonate composition includes a copolycarbonate having bisphenol A carbonate units and second carbonate units of the formula and 2 to 40 ppm of an organosulfonic stabilizer of the formula wherein the second carbonate units are present in an amount of 20 to 49 mol %, preferably 30 to 40 mol % based on the sum of the moles of the copolycarbonate and the bisphenol A homopolycarbonate. The polycarbonate composition has: a Vicat B120 of 160&#xb0; C. or higher measured according to ISO 306; and a yellowness index of less than 12, measured according to ASTM D1925.

A method of making a hollow fiber by coextrusion through a spinneret having an annulus and a bore, includes coextruding the membrane-forming composition through the annulus, and a first non-solvent composition through the bore, into a second non-solvent composition to form the hollow fiber.

In some embodiments, a method of making a polycarbonate composition comprises: polymerizing by an interfacial polymerization, reactants comprising a starting material comprising a bisphenol-A to form a bisphenol-A polycarbonate, wherein the bisphenol-A has a purity of greater than or equal to 99.65 wt % and a sulfur content of less than or equal to 2 ppm. The polycarbonate composition has a free hydroxyl content of less than or equal to 150 ppm, and wherein a molded article of the polycarbonate composition has transmission level greater than or equal to 90.0% at 2.5 mm thickness as measured by ASTM D1003-00 and a yellow index (YI) less than or equal to 1.5 as measured by ASTM D1925.

Polycarbonate compositions having enhanced optical properties, methods of making and articles comprising the polycarbonate compositions

A light emitting diode lighting device contains a light emitting diode and a lighting device component, wherein the device component comprises a polycarbonate composition comprising a bisphenol A polycarbonate; and 2,2'-(1,4-phenylene)bis(4H-3,1-benzoxazin-4-one) in an amount effective to provide a composition wherein a molded sample of the composition has a UL94 rating of V-2 or better at a thickness of 0.9 mm; an absorbance of less than 2 a.u. in the region of 370 to 380 nanometers; and an increase in yellowness index (&#x394;YI) of 12 or less at 2.5 mm thickness after heat aging at 130&#xb0; C. for 5,000 hours.

Light emitting diode devices, method of manufacture, uses thereof

Illuminating devices are disclosed having plastic light-transmitting article(s) formed from a thermoplastic composition including a polycarbonate having repeating structural carbonate units according to the formula: in which at least 60 percent of the total number of Rgroups contain aromatic moieties and the balance thereof are aliphatic, alicyclic, or aromatic. The composition also includes an epoxy additive having at least two epoxy groups per molecule and a phenolic diphosphite derived from pentaerythritol. The thermoplastic composition exhibits a dE (2000 hrs.) value of less than 1.5 after 2000 hours of heat aging at 130&#xb0; C., measured according ISO 11664-4:2008(E)/CIE S 014-4/E:2007 using CIE illuminant D65 and a 2.5 mm thick molded plaque of the thermoplastic composition.

In one embodiment, a light emitting device includes a lighting element located in a housing, wherein the housing is formed from a plastic composition including, for example, a polycarbonate formed from reacting, in the presence of a transesterification catalyst, a diaryl carbonate ester and a bisphenol A, wherein the bisphenol A has a sulfur concentration of 1 ppm to 15 ppm, based upon a weight of the bisphenol A; and a conversion material wherein the conversion material includes an inorganic material that converts radiation of a certain wavelength and re-emits of a different wavelength; wherein after the conversion material has been exposed to an excitation source, the conversion material has a luminescence lifetime of less than 10seconds when the excitation source is removed.
