A method and a device for making pieces of ice where water in a container is frozen into ice. A helically threaded shaft extends through the container so that the ice surrounds the shaft and is engaged by the helical thread of the shaft. The threaded shaft is rotated with respect to the ice so that the ice is moved toward a cutting member carried by the threaded shaft. Subsequently, the ice is shaved by the cutting member.

A shaver includes a shaving unit having e.g., three shaving elements. Each shaving element accommodates a cutter member for cutting off hairs. Each shaving element further accommodates a gear wheel which is part of a transmission for coupling a drive shaft for driving the cutter member to an output shaft of a motor of the shaver. A top side of a space where the gear wheel is located is covered by a partition, where only the drive shaft extends through this partition. Each shaving element can be individually opened by removing a top portion of the shaving element, including the cutter member, from a base portion of the shaving element where the gear wheel, the drive shaft and the partition are located. An opening system may be provided to open all the shaving elements in one action by reversal of the direction of rotation of the output shaft, for example.

The fluid-dispensing system is used in a personal care appliance, such as a power toothbrush. The dispensing system includes a strip of discrete, fluid-containing packets, a compressible sealing member and a hollow needle for puncturing the packets, the hollow needle being connected to a workpiece such as a brushhead via a connecting line. An actuation assembly includes a piston which moves successive packets against the sealing member, initially sealing the packet thereto. Further pressure results in compression of the sealing member and puncturing of the packet by the needle, with fluid being forced by piston pressure from the packet into the hollow needle and then to the connecting line for delivery to the workpiece.

A device for shaving hairs growing from skin including a base portion having a grip, a shaving head which carries at least one cutting member having at least one cutting edge, and an actuator for effecting a periodical motion of the cutting member relative to the base portion to improve the cutting action of the cutting member. The shaving head is pivotable relative to the base portion about a pivot axis and the periodical motion of the cutting member is a periodical motion relative to the shaving head. The position and orientation of the geometrical path of the periodical motion of the cutting member relative to the skin is well-defined, so that the risk of skin irritations and skin injuries is considerably reduced.
