A spraying device for producing a spray of particles in a carrier gas at ambient pressure, includes a storage volume for a liquid substance; at least one nozzle having an inlet and an outlet, the nozzle inlet fluidly communicating with the storage volume; a counter electrode; an electric supply coupled between the at least one nozzle and counter electrode for providing a first potential and create a first electric field between the nozzle outlet and the counter electrode. The device further includes at least one discharge electrode coupled to the electric supply for providing a second potential between the discharge electrode and the counter electrode, the polarity of the second potential being opposite to the polarity of the first potential. The at least one nozzle and the at least one discharge electrode are arranged adjacent and parallel to each other and facing the counter electrode from a substantially same direction.

System and method for delivering sprayed particles by electrospraying

The invention provides a method for the removal of a gaseous fluid comprising (a) applying an electric field between a first electrode arranged to generate a corona discharge and a second electrode, comprising a haze-permeable electrically conductive sieve of a plurality of conductive strands, (b) atomizing a liquid to providing a liquid haze between the first and the second electrode, wherein the liquid is a solvent for the gaseous fluid, and (c) arranging a substrate behind, relative to the first electrode, the second electrode.

The invention is directed to a process and apparatus for preparing coated particles, in particular a process for preparing particles that are coated with small particles using electrospraying. The coated particles produced according to the present invention find use for instance as catalysts or as pharmaceuticals. According to the invention a host particle is contacted in a gas stream where it is allowed to contact with one or more moving tribocharging particles, thus providing a charged host particle, which is subsequently contacted with charged guest particles in an electrospraying step.

Process and apparatus for producing coated particles

This invention provides a method for the removal of smut, fine dust and exhaust gas particles from polluted air including providing a particle catch arrangement with a charged surface, the particle catch arrangement being arranged to generate a static electric field, wherein the electric field is at least 0.2 kV/m. The invention further provides a particle catch arrangement including a surface that can be charged, further including a generator arranged to generate charge to the surface that can be charged and to generate a static electric field of at least 0.2 kV/m, wherein the particle catch arrangement is part of or integrated with an object including street furniture.

Particle catch arrangement using static electric field and methods of using same

A method, and an apparatus to reduce and remove liquid droplets in air, such as fog, mist, haze, spray or steam. The mist and/or air borne water or other liquid droplets catching and collection apparatus creates an 'electric wind', especially enforced by charged needle points or line arranged constructions and/or wires of the first electrode and an electric charging of mist and/or air borne water or other liquid droplets, which will be directed by the 'electric wind' and the electric field between the electric source and the opposite grounded or opposite charged counter electrode (second electrode) of fine gauze or something comparable.

Use of an electric field for the removal of droplets in a gaseous fluid

The invention is directed to a matrix material for MALDI mass spectrometry, to a matrix composition for MALDI mass spectrometry, in particular for aerosol MALDI mass spectrometry, to a MALDI mass spectrometry method, in particular an aerosol MALDI mass spectrometry method, to the use of a specific compound as a MALDI matrix material, and to the use of a MALDI matrix composition in a gas phase coating method. The matrix material of the invention comprises a 2-mercapto-4,5-dialkylthiazole according to formula (I), wherein X is chosen from S, O or N, and wherein Rand Rare independently chosen from hydrogen, methyl, methoxy, ethoxy, and propoxy, or wherein Rand Rare taken together to form an optionally substituted aromatic ring structure, optionally comprising one or more heteroatoms, or a tautomeric form thereof. A matrix composition preferably includes the matrix material and an alcohol. The alcohol can be halogenated. The MALDI MS method comprises contacting the analyte with the matrix material or the matrix composition; ionising at least part of the analyte, and separating the ionised components using a mass spectrometer, e.g. TOF-MS. Preferably, bioaerosols are contacted with the matrix material in the gas phase. 

Matrix for real-time aerosol mass spectrometry of atmospheric aerosols and real-time aerosol MALDI MS method

Removal of smut, dust and exhaust gas particles with particle catch arrangement using static electric field

The invention relates to a method of the dosed application of a liquid onto to selected portion of the surface of a substrate (A) by means of spraying under the influence of an electric current. According to the invention the liquid is fed at a flow rate between 0.01 pl/s and 1 ml/s to a distal tip () of a capillary () having an inside diameter of less than 150 &#x3bc;m, wherein the distance between the distal tip and the surface (A) is less than 2 mm. Surprisingly it has been shown that it is possible in this manner to apply liquid to a restricted surface of a defined size.

Method of the dosed application of a liquid onto a surface

In a method for detecting and identifying bioaerosol particles in the air, the bioaerosol particles in a particle stream are selected in an ATOFMS (aerosol time-of-flight mass spectrometer) by means of fluorescence techniques, and only the selected bioaerosol particles are ionized, for instance on the basis of MALDI (matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization), after which the resulting ions are detected and the bioaerosol particles are identified. The selection of bioaerosol particles takes place by means of laser radiation, generated by a first laser device, of a wavelength which in specific substances in bioaerosol particles effects a fluorescence, after which by means of a fluorescence detector the bioaerosol particles are selected and a second laser device is triggered to emit light of a wavelength which effects the ionization of the bioaerosol particles selected only by the fluorescence detector.
