The invention relates to a method for obtaining high-tenacity aramid yarn, wherein the yarn is made of a copolymer obtained from a mixture of monomers comprising DAPBI, an aromatic para-diamine, and an aromatic para-diacid, wherein the yarn is heated in at least two process steps, characterized in that in a first step the yarn is heated at a temperature of 200 to 360&#xb0; C. at a tension of at least 0.2 cN/dtex, followed by a second step wherein the yarn is heated at a temperature of 370 to 500&#xb0; C. at a tension of less than 1 cN/dtex. The invention further pertains to a multifilament aramid yarn spun from a sulfuric acid spin dope and having a tenacity of at least 2500 mN/tex.

Method for obtaining high-tenacity aramid yarn

The present invention pertains to a polyethylene film and a process for manufacturing such film. The polyethylene film may have a ratio between the strength in a first direction in the film plane and the strength in a second direction in the film plane perpendicular to the first direction in the range of 0.1-10:1, the strength in at least one direction being at least 0.2 Gpa. The process for manufacturing a polyethylene film may have a starting UHMWPE polymer with an average molecular weight of at least 500,000 grams/mole, an elastic shear modulus determined directly after melting at 160&#xb0; C. of at most 1.4 MPa, and a Mw/Mn ratio of at most 6 to a solvent-free compacting process and a stretching process under such conditions that at no point during the process the temperature of the intermediate polymer film is raised to a value above its melting point.

Polyethylene film and method for the manufacture thereof

A method for obtaining a composition of an aromatic polyamide containing para-phenylene terephthalamide and 2-(p-phenylene)benzimidazole terephthalamide units, the method including copolymerizing: i) a mole % of para phenylenediamine; ii) b mole % of 5(6)-amino-2-(p-aminophenyl)benzimidazole; and iii) 90-110 mole % of terephthaloyl dichloride in a mixture of N-methyl pyrrolidone and containing c wt. % of calcium chloride, wherein c is within the range from 1 to 20, and wherein the ratio a:b ranges from 1:20 to 20:1, a+b is 100 mole %, and i), ii), and iii) together comprise 1-20 wt. % of the mixture, wherein the product b&#xb7;c is at least 50 and less than 215 and that the composition is a crumb with a relative viscosity &#x3b7;rel of at least 4, wherein the crumb is defined as non-sticky particles at least 95% of which having an average diameter of 0.7-15 mm.

Process for making DAPBI-containing aramid crumbs

A crosslinked aramid polymer comprising a first aramid backbone which is crosslinked through a poly(meth)acrylic acid with a second aramid backbone. The crosslinked aramid polymer is obtained by polymerizing a monomeric aromatic diamine with a monomeric aromatic diacid, or halide or ester thereof in the presence of poly(meth)acrylic acid, followed by a curing step. The crosslinked aramid polymer is crosslinked through its amide bonds and can be made to a fiber, film or fibrid.

The invention pertains to an aramid copolymer composition comprising an aramid copolymer having at least one arylene carboxylic acid moiety and at least one hydroxyarylene moiety, or comprising an aramid copolymer having at least one arylene carboxylic acid moiety or having at least one hydroxyarylene moiety, and a crosslinker agent. The invention further relates to crosslinked copolymers derived thereof and shaped articles comprising said crosslinked copolymers.
