A compact gas discharge lamp () comprising four (or more) interconnected tube segments () is provided with an external electrode () that extends at least throughout the length of the tube segments and that is in contact with all tube segments. Several embodiments of the external electrode are disclosed. The external electrode is preferably connected to a node (C) midway between the lamp electrodes, to which end a capacitive divider () is arranged in parallel with the lamp.

Irradiation device for emitting ultraviolet radiation, comprising a housing accommodating at least one reflector and having a sheet material reflecting wall of substantially parabolic cross-sectional shape both ends of which are provided with reflecting side walls extending slightly obliquely towards the reflector opening, said side plates comprising holders between which a tubular discharge vessel of a high-pressure discharge lamp can be incorporated whose longitudinal axis extends parallel to the longitudinal axis of the parabolic reflecting wall, an elongate shielding plate extending beyond the location where the ends of the discharge vessel are incorporated in the holders being arranged between the discharge vessel and the reflecting wall.

Irradiation device

Irradiation device having a base (1) which is pivotably connected by means of an arm (2) to a housing (4,5) in which radiation sources are accommodated and in which a radiation exit side is present, the housing (4,5), the arm (2) and the base (1) being collapsible to a compact unit. The housing has two juxtaposed elongated parts (4,5) accommodating radiation sources, which parts (4,5) are pivotable with respect to each other about an axis (7a,8a) at right angles to the plane through the radiation exit side.

Irradiation device having a housing (1) accommodating at least one UV-radiation source, which housing is secured by means of pivots (6) to suspension members (2, 3), each pivot being composed of two co-operating concentric rings (7,8) whose facing walls are provided with series of regularly spaced co-operating projections (11a, 11b, 11c) and recesses (12), enabling the housing to be fixed in given positions with respect to the suspension members.
