A shielded gradient coil assembly () to generate a gradient magnetic field, the assembly comprises on a plurality of radially inner and outer coaxial cylindrical surfaces a gradient field coil arrangement on the radially inner cylindrical surfaces including a longitudinal gradient field coil system () having one or more axial circumferential electrically conducting hollow z-field windings having a smaller transverse cross-section and a transverse gradient field coil system () having hollow (x,y)—field electrical conductors having a smaller transverse cross-section and arranged as saddle coils on the surfaces of the inner cylindrical surfaces. A gradient shield coil arrangement is provided on the radially outer cylindrical surfaces including a longitudinal gradient shield coil system () having one or more axial circumferential electrically conducting hollow z-shield windings having a larger transverse cross-section and a transverse gradient shield coil system () having solid electrical conductors arranged as saddle coils on the surfaces of the outer cylindrical surfaces. In this way an optimum combination is achieved of efficient direct and indirect cooling of the conductors while keeping eddy current effects at a low level.

Shielded gradient assembly

A cryogen-free superconducting magnet system includes a cryocooler configured to cool a superconducting coil. The superconducting coil is arranged inside a vacuum chamber at a distance from vacuum chamber walls. The superconducting coil includes two superconducting coil connectors galvanically connected to two current leads fed through a vacuum chamber wall to provide the superconducting coil with an electric current from outside of the vacuum chamber. Each current lead includes a first section and a second section, wherein the cross-sectional area of the first section is less than the cross-sectional area of the second section. The current leads are galvanically attached to the superconducting coil connectors and thermally connected to the first stage of the refrigerator with their respective second sections. The first sections of the current leads each include a cooling arrangement for cooling the first sections of the current leads by heat transfer to the outside at ambient temperature.

The invention provides for a medical imaging system () comprising a memory () storing machine executable instructions () and a configured artificial neural network (). The medical imaging system further comprises a processor () configured for controlling the medical imaging system. Execution of the machine executable instructions causes the processor to receive () magnetic resonance imaging data (), wherein the magnetic resonance imaging data is BOLD functional magnetic resonance imaging data descriptive of a time dependent BOLD signal () for each of a set of voxels. A superconducting magnet arrangement comprises a field coil assembly with coil windings that when in operation are electrically superconducting. The field coil assembly is circuited between connection ports for a voltage supply. A switching module switches a sub-section of the field coil assembly's coil windings between its electrical superconducting and electrical resistive states, said sub-section forming a switching coil circuited between the connection ports. In the operational state where both the switching coil and the field coil(s) are superconducting and carry a permanent electrical current, the field coil(s) and the switching coil together generate a stationary magnetic field. According to the invention the switch windings give a significant contribution to the magnetic field. The field coil assembly's coil windings that may be switched between it electrically superconducting and resistive states form the switching coil. That is, the switching coil forms part of the field coil assembly and contributes significantly to the magnetic field generated by the field coil assembly.

Superconducting magnet assembly

A magnetic resonance apparatus which may include: a body portion having a cavity with a first and second ends and at least one opening situated at one of the first and second ends. The cavity may define a longitudinal axis (LA) extending between the first and second ends. At least one main magnet may generate a main magnetic field having a substantially homogenous magnetic field within the cavity. A center shim (CS) which may be formed from a ring having opposed edges and which may extend along a length of the longitudinal axis of the cavity. One or more discrete shims (DSs) may be situated between the CS and at least one of the first and second ends.

A gradient coil system for a magnetic resonance imaging system includes a plurality of gradient coils for applying a gradient magnetic field to a target volume; at least one coolant tube per gradient coil for cooling the gradient coil (110A-C, 210A-C). The coolant tubes are connected to respective flow control devices and a controller, which is configured to control each flow control device of the flow control devices for adjusting the flow of a coolant in the respective coolant tube. The controller is configured to control the flow control device on the basis of heat load caused by the respective gradient coil.

The following relates generally to use of magnetic resonance (MR) imaging as guidance in radiation therapy, and more specifically to use of MR imaging as guidance in proton therapy. In some embodiments, a cryogenic dewar is provided with multiple channels allowing a proton beam from a proton beam source to pass through. The proton beam may first be aligned with a first channel, and the dewar may then be rotated along with the proton source. The dewar may then be rotated to align a second channel with the proton beam.

Charged particle beam therapy and magnetic resonance imaging

A radiation screen comprising the elongate thermal conductors which reduce temperature gradients along the radiation screen and do no support electrical eddy currents. The radiation screen is easy to manufacture, does not require additional mechanical support and does not generate mechanical resonances so that the heat load onto the cold mass remains low.

A gradient coil assembly for a magnetic resonance examination system and comprises a conical end-flange surface between the primary cylindrical surface and the shield cylindrical surface at their adjacent axial ends. Interconnecting winding portions between the primary windings and the shield windings disposed on the conical surface and serially connecting at least some of the shield windings to some of the primary windings. This tapered connection reduces the radially outward stray gradient magnetic field. The winding portions over the conical surface are largely insensitive to discretisation errors.
