Aqueous amino resin compositions comprising amino resins A, formaldehyde-binding additives (auxiliaries) B, which may include hydroxyl-containing polyurethanes B13, acrylic resins C, if desired, in the form of aqueous dispersions, and water, and their use as impregnating compositions for paper for the purpose of producing finished foils and edgings.

An aqueous amino resin blend comprises aliphatic linear, branched or cyclic amines A containing at least one primary, secondary or tertiary amino group, at least one hydroxyl group and 2 to 20 carbon atoms, and amino resins B, and is used as an impregnating resin in the production of finished foils and edgings.

Water-dilutable etherified melamine-formaldehyde resins obtained by reacting melamine, formaldehyde, a compound having anionic groups and an etherification alcohol in a mixing ratio of melamine:formaldehyde:compound having anionic group:etherification alcohol of 1:(1.7 to 7.0):(0.01 to 0.4):(10 to 30) in the reaction mixture, are prepared in a multistage process and are used for preparing impregnates, especially glass fiber fleece and in paper coating.

Water-dilutable etherified melamine-formaldehyde resins

N-Alkoxymethylactams are obtained by reacting lactams with formaldehyde and hydroxyl-containing compounds selected from diol monoethers. The substituted lactams are useful as an additive to melamne impregnating resings.
