The present invention provides a process for producing a ballistic-resistant curved molded article said process comprising pressing in a mold a stack comprising a plurality of layers of unidirectionally aligned polyolefin fibers substantially absent a bonding matrix and a plurality of layers of adhesive; characterized in that a means for dispersing pressure is employed against at least one surface of the stack. Also provided are a ballistic-resistant curved molded article and a press-pad having substantially the shape of a curved mold.

Ballistic-resistant curved molded article

The present invention provides process for producing a ballistic-resistant molded article, which molded article comprises: i) a plurality of layers of unidirectionally aligned polyolefin fibers, which layers are substantially absent a bonding matrix; and ii) a plurality of layers of adhesive, and which process comprises: a) providing a plurality of precursor sheets, each of said precursor sheets comprising i) at least one layer of unidirectionally aligned polyolefin fibers which layer is substantially absent a bonding matrix, and ii) at least one layer of adhesive; b) stacking said precursor sheets to form a stack, wherein the total amount of adhesive in the stack is from 5.0 to 12.0 wt. % based on the total weight of the stack; c) pressing the stack produced in step b) at a temperature of from 1 to 30&#xb0; C. below the melting point of the polyolefin fibers and at a pressure of at least 8 MPa; and d) cooling the pressed stack produced in step c) to at least 50&#xb0; C. below the melting point of the polyolefin fibers while maintaining pressure.

Ballistic-resistant molded article

The invention relates to a composite sheet comprising at least two adjacent fibrous monolayers of unidirectionally aligned high tenacity polyethylene fibers, whereby the direction of orientation between the polyethylene fibers of said two fibrous layers differs by at least 80&#xb0; and up to 90&#xb0;, the fibers having a tenacity of at least 1.5 N/tex, said fibers being in a matrix comprising a homopolymer or copolymer of ethylene and wherein said homopolymer or copolymer of ethylene has a density as measured according to IS01183 of between 870 to 980 kg/m, said composite sheet having an areal density of between 50 and 500 g/mwherein the composite sheet has an areal density normalized in-plane shear force measured at 25&#xb0; C. evaluated according to the bias extension test method of at least 0.40 N&#xb7;m&#xb7;g-1 at 10 mm clamp displacement.

High performance fibers composite sheet

A material sheet is formed of a woven fabric of polymer tapes, wherein the width of a tape varies less than 2% on average in the longitudinal direction of the tape. Processes for the preparation of the material sheet, and to a ballistic resistant article comprising the material sheet are also provided. A ballistic resistant article which includes the material sheet exhibits excellent antiballistic properties.

The invention relates to an armor comprising in front to back order at least one rigid first panel comprising inorganic fibers and at least one second panel comprising polymeric fibers, characterized in that the at least one rigid first panel has a flexural strength of at least 300 MPa and the at least one second panel has a flexural strength of at most 250 MPa.
