A tool structure contains a first part having an oval end section with regard to an axis of symmetry in a direction of a maximum height and an axis of symmetry in the direction of a maximum width, and a second part having a recess accommodating the end section via mutual contact surfaces. The tool structure has a clamping element for the mutual clamping of the parts and mutual contact surfaces that are restricted to in each case four spaced-apart surface sections. These surface sections are disposed symmetrically with respect to a circumference of the end section such that a center point of a straight connecting line of the starting and end points of the respective surface section is at a normal distance bfrom the axis of symmetry and at a normal distance hfrom the axis of symmetry, hbeing greater than b.

Tool structure

The novel turning method on a lathe or a machining apparatus uses a tool head which is traversable for the machining and can be rotated mechanically in a receiver with a rotary axis D in the course of the machining. The rotary axis D of the tool head lies within an angular range &agr; of 45&deg; to 90&deg; to the X-axis and perpendicularly to the Z-axis of the machining apparatus. In addition, a tool head is used whose cutting inserts are arranged in such a way that each cutting insert has a tool reference plane P through in each case identical selected cutting-edge points perpendicularly to the assumed cutting direction in accordance with DIN 6581, this tool reference plane P running within an angular range &bgr; of 90&deg; to 135&deg; to the rotary axis D of the tool head.

Turning method

The invention concerns a process for the manufacture of a cutting insert (1) for thread cutting, with several cutting teeth (2-6) simultaneously engaged in incrementally cutting the thread profile. The blank is manufactured by pressing and sintering so that the relief angles of the flanks of the side cutting edges (9,10) of the individual teeth (2-6) are at least 3.degree. and the profile depth of the final cutting tooth (6) which makes the finishing cut on the thread fits within the required final measurement tolerances, while the thickness of the cutting insert (1) and the tooth width (b) of the cutting teeth (2, 3, 4, 5, 6) are oversized. Subsequently, the blank is mechanically processed on the back face (7) and/or the front face (8) until the tooth width (b) of the cutting teeth (2, 3, 4, 5, 6) and the thickness (d) of the cutting insert (1) fit within the required final measurement tolerances.

Method for the production of a cutting insert for thread cutting

A parting tool is provided having a tool shank and an interchangeable blade support connected thereto. The blade support is equipped with a blade attachment of blade. The blade support makes contact along one side thereof with a broad-side of the tool shank. The blade support has narrow sides which are guided, at least on sections, by two guide surfaces of the tool shank typically disposed on flanges. Flat contact surfaces on said flanges perpendicularly disposed in relation to the broad side of the tool shank butt against two corresponding counter guide surfaces on said blade support and are pressed against each other by clamping means such as longitudinally off-set screws. In comparison with earlier parting tools used for the same applications, the parting tools of the invention can be made smaller in overall height and provide extremely stable connection between the blade support and the tool shank, thereby greatly reducing rattling and vibrations during normal cutting operations.
