A mobile machine for clearing and planing ballast comprises a machine frame, undercarriages supporting the machine frame for mobility on the railroad track, at least one vertically and transversely adjustable ballast clearing tool connected to the machine frame for clearing ballast laterally outwardly of a respective rail and for planing the ballast upon vertical and transverse adjustment of the tool, the tool being longitudinally adjustably mounted on the machine frame for adjustment in the direction of the railroad track supported by the ballast, and drives connected to the tool for vertically, transversely and longitudinally adjusting the tool.

Mobile ballast clearing and planing machine

A mobile apparatus for sequentially exchanging selected consecutive groups of oil ties in an existing railroad track for groups of new ties while retaining groups of old ties therebetween to support the mobile apparatus on the track, comprises at least one bridge-like work vehicle having a frame defining an upwardly recessed portion between respective ends thereof, and a succession of different individual devices mounted in the recessed frame portion of a respective work vehicle and operative to effectuate different sequential operations for exchanging the selected old ties for the new ties, the tie exchanging devices including at least two tie pulling and inserting devices arranged for longitudinal displacement within view of an operator's accommodation. A respective drive displaces each tie pulling and inserting device with respect to the work vehicle frame along a displacement path extending in the direction of the longitudinal extension of the work vehicle frame.

Mobile tie gang apparatus

A machine for exchanging old ties for new ties, which comprises a self-propelled standard railroad vehicle comprising a machine frame, undercarriages supporting the machine frame for mobility on the railroad track, a drive for advancing the vehicle in an operating direction, and an operator's cab. A tie exchanging device is connected to the machine frame and arranged within sight of the operator's cab, the tie exchanging device being operable for withdrawing the old ties and inserting the new ties and comprising a longitudinally adjustable tie gripping means including a tie clamp, a drive for longitudinally adjusting the tie gripping means, and respective drives for vertically adjusting and for operating the tie clamp between tie engaging and tie releasing positions. A drive is connected to the tie exchanging device for longitudinally displacing the device in the operating direction with respect to the machine frame, and a vertical tie conveyor is connected to the machine frame and arranged adjacent the tie exchanging device.

Tie exchange machine

A continuously advancing machine for track leveling, lining and tamping comprises a main frame, a single undercarriage supporting the main frame and the main frame having a portion projecting in the track direction from the single undercarriage, a drive connected to the single undercarriage for continuously advancing the main frame in an operating direction, a brake connected to the single undercarriage for stopping the advancing main frame, and an operator's cab, a control arrangement and a power plant mounted on the continuously advancing main frame. The machine further comprises a tool-carrying frame, an undercarriage supporting the tool-carrying frame on the track, the tool-carrying frame supporting undercarriage being widely spaced from the main frame supporting undercarriage and the projecting main frame portion being longitudinally displaceably supported on the tool-carrying frame, a drive for intermittently advancing the tool-carrying frame, tie tamping and track position correcting tools mounted on the tool-carrying frame within sight of the operator's cab, the tools including drives for operating the tools and the drives being actuated by the control arrangement, and a track position reference system connected to the control arrangement for actuating the drives of the track position correcting tools in response to the track position detected by the reference system.

Continuously advancing track leveling, lining and tamping machine

A ballast tamping tool for attachment to a reciprocating tamping drive of a ballast tamping machine comprises a shaft having an upper end affixed to the tamping drive and a tamping blade detachably mounted on a lower end of the shaft. A plug-in, form-fitting connection detachably connects the tamping blade to a lower end of the shaft, the detachable connection defining a recess behind the rear surface of the tamping blade and comprising a plug projecting from the lower shaft end and being offset therefrom by a step to form a shoulder, the upper tamping blade edge extending at least partially along, and axially adjacent, the shoulder, and a connecting part at the rear tamping blade surface form-fittingly connecting the tamping blade to the plug.

Ballast tamping tool

A mobile installation for loading, transporting and unloading track parts such as ties on, in and from open top railroad cars including a train mounted for mobility along a railroad track and having a plurality of open top railroad cars. Adjacent ones of the railroad cars are coupled together and each one of the railroad cars has two parallel side walls with top edges extending in the direction of the railroad track, and two end walls, the end wals of the adjacent railroad cars defining respective gaps therebetween. A power-driven crane is provided for loading and unloading the track parts and has an undercarriage supporting the crane for mobility in the direction of the railroad track. There is also a track supporting the undercarriage of the crane for mobility above the top edges of the railroad cars in said direction. The track includes two parallel guide rails mounted on the top edges of the railroad cars and is spaced apart a distance corresponding to the gage of the crane undercarriage. The guide rails extend beyond the end walls of the railroad cars into the gaps between the adjacent cars to provide a substantially continuous track for support of the crane undercarriage along the train of cars. The power-driven crane comprises a pivotal overhead outrigger and another outrigger mounted for mobility on the guide rails, the other outrigger carries an endless conveyor band for receiving and storing the track parts. A bridge-like gantry crane is mounted for mobility on the guide rails, the gantry crane includes means for loading the track parts on, and unloading the track parts from, the endless conveyor band.

A mechanical tie gang comprises a train of open top railroad cars, a power-driven crane for loading and unloading ties and having an undercarriage arranged for mobility in the direction of the railroad track, and a track supporting the undercarriage of the crane for mobility above the top edges of the side walls of the railroad cars in this direction, the track comprising two parallel guide rails mounted on the top edges of the railroad cars and being spaced apart a distance corresponding to the gage of the crane undercarriage, the guide rails extending beyond the end walls of the railroad cars into the gaps between adjacent cars. This train is used in combination with a mobile apparatus for sequentially exchanging consecutive groups of old ties for groups of new ties while retaining groups of old ties therebetween, which comprises an elongated bridge-like work vehicle having two undercarriages supporting respective opposite ends of the work vehicle on the railroad track, and a succession of different individual devices mounted on the work vehicle between the undercarriages for exchanging the ties.

A mobile apparatus arranged to store and transport bulk material comprises a box car having a frame and a box for storing and transporting the bulk material. A conveyor band arrangement for conveying the bulk material stored in the box in a conveying direction has a portion extending over the length of the box in the lower portion thereof and passes through a slot-shaped outlet opening in a front wall of the box in the conveying direction, and a device having adjustable chutes for selectively discharing the conveyed bulk material to the right and to the left of each rail is arranged outside the box and receives the conveyed bulk material therefrom.

Box car

A mobile apparatus for sequentially exchanging selected consecutive groups of old ties in an existing railroad track for groups of new ties while retaining groups of old ties therebetween to support the mobile apparatus on the track, which comprises a continuously advancing bridge-like work vehicle having a machine frame defining an upwardly recessed portion between respective ends thereof and a respective swivel truck supporting each machine frame end. A continuous guide track is mounted atop the work vehicle and a power-driven tie transporting crane is mounted for mobility on the guide track. A succession of different individual devices are mounted in the recessed portion of the work vehicle machine frame and operative to effectuate different sequential operations for exchanging the selected old ties for the new ties, the tie exchanging devices including in sequence in the operating direction (1) a spike pulling device, (2) a spike collecting device for collecting the pulled spikes, (3) a ballast clearing device including tools for lifting the railroad track lifting and for laterally moving the old ties wherefrom the spikes have been pulled, (4) a tie plate transporting device, (5) a tie pulling device for laterally withdrawing the laterally moved old ties from the railroad track and a vertical conveyor succeeding the tie pulling device for conveying the withdrawn old ties, (6) a tie inserting device for inserting the new ties and a vertical conveyor preceding the tie inserting device for conveying the new ties thereto, and (7) a device for tamping ballast under the inserted new ties. A respective drive longitudinally displaces each tie exchanging device.

A method for sequentially exchanging selected consecutive groups of old ties for groups of new ties while retaining groups of old ties between the selected old ties in a railroad track consisting of two rails fastened to the ties supported on ballast, which method comprises advancing at least one elongated bridge-like work vehicle along the track, sequentially operating a succession of different individual devices mounted on the advancing work vehicle to remove rail fastening elements whereby the selected ties are detached from the rails, to remove tie plates positioned between the detached ties and the rails, to withdraw the detached ties laterally from the track, to scarify the ballast where the detached ties have been withdrawn whereby shaped recesses are formed in the ballast under the rails, to insert new ties in the shaped recesses, to place new tie plates between the new ties and the rails, to tamp ballast under the new ties, and to fasten the rails to the new ties. The different individual operating devices are intermittently displaced along the elongated work vehicle for effectuating the sequential operation thereof while the work vehicle advances.

Tie exchange method

A continuously advancing track leveling, lining and tamping machine comprises a heavy main frame supported on two spaced apart undercarriages for continuous movement in an operating direction and a power plant, drives and operating controls as well as an operator's cab for operating the drives and controls mounted on the main frame. Two separate carrier frames are arranged between the two undercarriages of the heavy main frame, and a drive connected to the heavy main frame longitudinally displaces the carrier frames in relation to the main frame whereby the carrier frames may be intermittently advanced during the continuous movement of the heavy main frame, this drive having a displacement path corresponding to a distance between at least two successive ties. One of the separate carrier frames supports tools for tamping ballast in intermittent tamping cycles under respective ones of the ties at points of intersection of the two rails and the respective ties, and a track lofting and lining unit is mounted on the other one of the separate carrier frames. The tamping tools and the lifting and lining unit is arranged within sight of the operator's cab, and the power plant delivers power to, and the operating controls control, the tamping, track lifting and lining. Track leveling and lining reference systems are associated with the track lifting and lining unit.

A mobile machine for leveling, lining and tamping a track has a heavy main frame supported on undercarriages for continuous movement in an operating direction, a power plant, a drive for continuously advancing the main frame along the track in the operating direction and a brake for stopping the advance of the main frame, the power plant, the drive and the brake carried by the main frame, and a lighter subframe pivotally and longitudinally adjustably connected to the heavy main frame. Tamping heads are mounted on the subframe for tamping ballast in intermittent tamping cycles under respective the ties at points of intersection of the two rails and the ties. A track lifting and lining unit is associated with the two rails mounted on the subframe ahead of the tamping heads in the operating direction, and the tamping heads and track lifting and lining unit being arranged on the subframe between two undercarriages spaced in the direction of the track, one of said undercarriages wherebetween the tamping and track lifting and lining unit is arranged being a further undercarriage supporting the subframe on the track. There is another drive for stop-and-go advancement of the subframe synchronously with the intermittent tamping cycles, and a stop-and-go advancement drive and/or brake arranged to operate on the further undercarriage.

Moble track leveling, lining and tamping machine

A mobile machine for leveling, lining and tamping a track has a main frame supported on undercarriages for continuous movement in an operating direction, a power plant and operating controls carried by the main frame, and an elongated subframe pivotally and longitudinally adjustably connected to the main frame, the subframe having two ends and being arranged ahead of one of the undercarriages supporting the main frame, respective undercarriages supporting the subframe ends. Tamping heads are mounted on the subframe between the respective undercarriages for tamping ballast in intermittent tamping cycles under respective ties at points of intersection of the two rails and the respective ties. A track lifting and lining unit is associated with the two rails mounted on the subframe ahead of the tamping heads and arranged on the subframe between the respective undercarriages. A longitudinally adjustable coupling device pivotally connects the elongated subframe to the main frame whereby the subframe moves with the main frame while being longitudinally adjusted in relation thereto.

Mobile track leveling, lining and tamping machine

A mobile track leveling, lining and tamping machine has a machine frame supported on undercarriages for continuous movement in an operating direction, a power plant and operating controls carried by the machine frame, a tool carrier frame having a front end and a rear end, and an undercarriage supporting and guiding the tool carrier frame rear end on the track. Tamping tool assemblies are mounted on the tool carrier frame immediately ahead of the undercarriage supporting and guiding the tool carrier frame rear end for tamping ballast in intermittent tamping cycles under respective ties at points of intersection of the two rails and the ties in tangent and switch track sections and a track lifting and lining unit is associated with the two rails mounted on the tool carrier frame ahead of the tamping tool assemblies and is arranged on the tool carrier frame between two undercarriages spaced in the direction of the track for lifting and lining the track in tangent and switch track sections. A longitudinally adjustable coupling device pivotally links the front end of the tool carrier frame to the machine frame, the tool carrier frame having a lateral pivoting range sufficient to pivot and guide the tool carrier frame in switch track sections.
