A process for preparing cyclododecene by selective gas-phase hydrogenation of at least one starting material selected from cyclododecatriene, cyclododecadiene and mixtures thereof, wherein the starting material present in the gas phase is hydrogenated in the presence of a catalyst in a fixed-bed reactor and the Bodenstein number for the process is greater than 100.

Cyclohexene is prepared by partial hydrogenation of benzene with hydrogen in the presence of water and ruthenium catalyst at elevated temperature and superatmospheric pressure by a continuous process in which benzene is introduced in gaseous form and the resulting cyclohexene is discharged in gaseous form and the catalyst is present in solution or suspension in a liquid, aqueous phase.

The reaction gases from the chlorination of methane and preferably also methyl chloride, after removal of the HCl and drying, are subjected to the steps of partially condensing the dried stream of reaction gases at a pressure of 5-15 bars and at a temperature of 0.degree.-40.degree. Method for the hydroformylation of olefins with carbon monoxide and hydrogen in the presence of soluble cobalt compounds as the catalyst at an elevated temperature and under increased pressure, and optionally in the presence of paraffins and/or other inert diluents. The hydroformylation is conducted, in a first stage, up to a conversion of about 40-75 percent with remixing of the reaction mixture, and then, in a second stage, up to a conversion of at least 95 percent, preferably 95-98 percent, without remixing.

A continuous process for the production of acetic acid by a catalytic gas-phase oxidation of butenes in the presence of a vanadate catalyst and steam and in a solid bed or fluidized bed reactor cycle is disclosed wherein the recycled gas stream contains acetic acid produced by the reaction of the butenes and oxygen or oxygen containing gases, and the butene proportion in the gaseous mixture is at least 0.4 percent by volume. A first portion of the gas stream leaving the reactor cycle is recycled and a second portion of the gas stream leaving the reactor is cooled whereby acetic acid and water are condensed. After branching the waste gas the remaining gaseous fraction of the second portion is recycled into the reactor. The volume ratio of this remaining gaseous fraction to the first portion is about 0 to 0.2 for an air feed and about 0.1 to 0.4 for an oxygen feed. The acetic acid has a concentration in the effluent gas of the reactor of about 1.5 to 10 percent by volume.
