An expandable intervertebral implant () includes superior () and inferior () bone contacting members and at least one vertical wire netting () interconnecting the superior and inferior bone contacting members. The superior and inferior bone contacting members include at least two bone contacting components interconnected via one or more lateral wire nettings such that the implant is vertically and laterally expandable in situ from a first insertion configuration to a second expanded configuration. The vertical and lateral wire netting are preferably constructed of a plurality of individual link members. The present invention also preferably relates to an associated method of manufacturing the intervertebral implant such that the intervertebral implant can be manufactured as an integral component or part.

The implant can include first and second implant segments that are configured to be secured to opposed ilium bones, such that a first locking member is configured to fix the first implant segment to the guide wire, and a second locking member is configured to fix the second implant segment to the guide wire.

A bone fixation system has a bone implant with an implant body. The implant body defines an upper surface, a bone-facing surface spaced from the upper surface along a transverse direction, and at least one aperture defined by an inner wall. A bone fixation element is configured for insertion at least partially through the aperture. The bone fixation element defines a proximal end and a distal end spaced from the proximal end along a central axis. The bone fixation element has a head and a shaft that extends relative to the head toward the distal end. The head defines a first ridge, a second ridge spaced from the first ridge, and a groove disposed between the first and second ridges. The groove can receive at least a portion of the inner wall to couple the bone fixation element to the bone implant.

An implant for treating a bone includes an outer sleeve extending longitudinally from a proximal end to a distal end and including a lumen extending therethrough and an inner element sized and shaped to be slidably received within the lumen of the outer sleeve, the inner element extending longitudinally from a proximal end received within the lumen to a distal end including a bone-engaging element, the implant movable between an expanded configuration in which the inner element is in a distal-most position relative to the outer sleeve and a shortened configuration in which the inner element slides proximally relative to the outer element.
