A computer-implemented method of authenticating a user with a computing device is disclosed. The method involves displaying a grid of selectable visually-distinguishable graphical elements on a device display, receiving from a user of the device a drawn pattern across the selectable graphical elements, comparing the received drawn pattern to information representing a stored authentication pattern for the user, and unlocking access to functions on the device if the received drawn pattern substantially matches the stored authentication pattern.

A radio antenna device for a radio communication terminal, e.g. a mobile telephone, comprising a flat ground plane and an antenna element having a radio signal feeding point disposed at the ground plane. The antenna element has a folded three dimensional box-like shape. The inventive antenna design provides for an antenna device with compact size, which at the same time is operable in UWB (Ultra Wideband) frequency regions. The antenna device may therefore advantageously be incorporated into a portable communication terminal such as a mobile telephone.

A wideband monopole antenna arrangement, for a portable communication device, includes a substantially continuous conductor plate that includes a first antenna element and a second antenna element, and a signal ground arranged to interact with the antenna elements so as to form the wideband monopole antenna arrangement. The first antenna element extends substantially at an angle (&#x3b8;) with respect to the second antenna element. The angle (&#x3b8;) forms an acute angle of a right-angled triangle (T) in which the first antenna element extends substantially parallel to a hypotenuse (h) of the triangle (T) and the second antenna element extends substantially in parallel to a longer cathetus (c) of two catheti (c, c) in the triangle (T).

Said antenna element has a longitudinal member (), a first transverse member () extending from a first end portion of said longitudinal member, and a second transverse member () extending from a centre portion of said longitudinal member, wherein said parasitic element extends adjacent to an outer portion of and parallel to said second transverse member. A feeding point () is disposed at a center portion of said second transverse member. The parasitic element has a first ground connection () adjacent to said feeding point, a second ground connection () is disposed at an end portion of said second transverse member, and a third ground connection () is disposed at a center portion of said first transverse member.

A multi-band antenna for use in a portable telecommunication apparatus has a pattern of thin conductive material and is adapted to operate in at least two, preferably at least three, frequency bands, such as 900 MHz, 1800 MHz and 1900 MHz. A first portion of conductive material has a first end, which is connected to radio circuitry in the portable telecommunication apparatus. It also has a second end. A second portion of conductive material has a first end, which in connected to the second end of the first portion. The second portion has a non-linear extension and is narrower than the first portion. A third portion of conductive material is connected to the second portion. The third portion is wider than the second portion and provides capacitive loading of the antenna.

Multi-band antenna for use in a portable telecommunications apparatus

A system and method are provided for improving speech quality for signals divided into a frame structure. Speech information in a signal is detected, and a lost or corrupted transmitted frame is detected. The lost or corrupted frame is replaced by a suitable frame if a number of frames represented e.g., by a counter value, exceeds a predetermined value. The counter value may be changed, depending on whether the system is in a comfort noise generation state or in a muting period. The frame may be replaced by a frame representing mainly background noise, generated at the transmitting end during speech pauses or at the receiving end, or such a frame and a correctly received frame. The predetermined value may be the length of a muting period or may be the number of lost or corrupted frames preceding a speech frame. A first of the correctly received speech frames that follows a number of lost or corrupted frames may also be replaced. The output frames gradually approach pure speech frames.

System, arrangement, and method for replacing corrupted speech frames

Apparatus, and an associated method, for a multi-branch receiver. A receive signal is received at various receiver branches of the multi-branch receiver. Subsequent to selected processing stages of processing of the receive signal, determinations are made of the signal quality of the signal in the receiver branches. When determinations are made that the signal quality of the signal of a particular receiver branch is of poor quality, further processing of the signal in the branch is squelched.
