There is provided a method at a network node equipped with an advance antenna system, AAS. The AAS comprises a plurality of antenna elements and one or more radio frequency integrated circuits, RFICs. Each of the one or more RFICs is associated with one or more of the plurality of antenna elements. The method comprising: capturing a plurality of signal samples of one or more signal chains of each of the one or more RFICs. Each of the one or more signal chains correspond to one or more of the plurality of antenna elements and a signal sample is associated with an envelope power level at an output of the respective signal chain; and summing at least a subset of the plurality of signal samples to obtain a short term average power value at the AAS.

Power control

There is provided mechanisms for adapting beamformed transmission from a base station. A method is performed by a control node. The control node is configured to control the beamformed transmission. The method comprises obtaining a first piece of information indicative of distance to, and direction towards, a radio communication site relative the base station. The method comprises obtaining a second piece of information indicative of operating radio frequency band of the radio communication site. The method comprises adapting the beamformed transmission so as to keep emission from the base station in the direction towards the radio communication site that contributes within the operating radio frequency band of the radio communication site within a prescribed limit.

Adaptation of beamformed transmission

A transmission beam change method is disclosed for a wireless communication transmitter adapted to transmit an orthogonal frequency division multiplex (OFDM) signal using a transmission beam of a plurality of transmission beams available at the wireless communication transmitter. The method includes temporarily adapting an output power during a transmission beam change from one transmission beam to another transmission beam. In some embodiments, the transmission beam change is performed during a cyclic prefix (CP) of an OFDM symbol and the temporary adaptation is applied to only a part of the CP. Temporarily adapting the output power includes decreasing the output power to initiate the temporary adaptation and increasing the output power to terminate the temporary adaptation. In some embodiments, the temporary adaptation is performed during all transmission beam changes or only when an occurrence frequency of transmission beam changes is higher than a threshold value.

Power scaling of transmission signal during transmission beam change

There is provided a signal distribution network for an antenna arrangement with fewer input ports than antenna elements. The signal distribution network comprises at least two signal splitters. The signal distribution network comprises at least two signal combiners. Each signal splitter is configured to receive one input baseband signal from a unique input port and to provide one direct feed signal as input to a unique antenna element, and to provide one intermediate signal as input to at least one of said at least one signal combiner. Each signal combiner is configured to receive two intermediate signals, each intermediate signal being received from a respective signal splitter of the at least two signal splitters, and to provide one combined signal as input to a unique antenna element, wherein the one combined signal is formed by combining the received two intermediate signals.

Signal distribution network

There is provided a signal distribution network for an antenna arrangement with fewer input ports than antenna elements. The signal distribution network comprises at least two signal splitters. The signal distribution network comprises at least one signal combiner. Each signal splitter is configured to receive one input baseband signal from a unique input port and to provide one direct feed signal as input to a unique antenna element, and to provide one intermediate signal as input to at least one of said at least one signal combiner. Each signal combiner is configured to receive two intermediate signals, each intermediate signal being received from a respective signal splitter of the at least two signal splitters, and to provide one combined signal as input to a unique antenna element, wherein the one combined signal is formed by combining the received two intermediate signals.

A signal distribution network for an N-port antenna arrangement. The signal distribution network comprises first circuitry for receiving at least one input signal and implementing splitting of the at least one input signal into N/2 output signals, where N&#x3e;1. The signal distribution network comprises second circuitry for providing N output signals to a respective antenna port and implementing splitting of N/2 input signals into the N output signals. The signal distribution network comprises switching circuitry, the switching circuitry being operatively connected between the first circuitry and the second circuitry, the switching circuitry implementing selectable connectivity between the first circuitry and the second circuitry such that the N/2 output signals of the first circuitry are provided as the N/2 input signals of the second circuitry. The signal distribution network comprises control circuitry configured to control the switching circuitry so as to selectively connect outputs of the first circuitry to inputs of the second circuitry, thereby selectively directing the N/2 output signals through the switching circuitry.

The invention discloses a transmitter comprising a pulse encoder for creating pulses from the amplitude of an input signal to the transmitter, a compensation signal generator for cancelling quantization noise caused by the pulse encoder, a mixer or I/Q modulator for mixing an output of the pulse encoder with the phase of an input signal to the transmitter, said output of the pulse encoder comprising the amplitude of the complex input signal plus the quantization noise caused by the pulse encoder, and an amplifier for creating an output signal from the transmitter. In the transmitter, a control signal (C) for controlling a function of the amplifier comprises an output signal from the compensation signal generator, and an input signal to the amplifier comprises an output from the mixer having been modulated to a desired frequency.

Transmitter with quantization noise compensation

The invention discloses a transmitter comprising a pulse encoder for creating pulses from the amplitude of an input signal to the transmitter, a compensation signal generator for cancelling quantization noise caused by the pulse encoder, a mixer or I/Q modulator for mixing an output of the pulse encoder with the phase of an input signal to the transmitter and an amplifier for creating an output signal from the transmitter. In the transmitter, a control signal (C) for controlling a function of the amplifier comprises an output signal from the compensation signal generator, and an input signal to the amplifier comprises an output from the mixer having been modulated to a desired frequency.

A power-amplifier arrangement () is disclosed. The power-amplifier arrangement () comprises a pulse modulator () adapted to receive a digital input signal of the power-amplifier arrangement () and generate, based on the digital input signal of the power-amplifier arrangement (), an output signal of the pulse modulator () with a plurality of quantization levels. The pulse modulator has a plurality of output ports (-_n) for representing the output signal of the pulse modulator (). Each output port (-_n) of the pulse modulator () is associated with a unique one of the quantization levels such that a signal output on the output port (-_n) adopts a first state when the output signal of the pulse modulator () equals or exceeds the associated quantization level, or, otherwise, a second state. A related radio-transmitter circuit and a related radio-communication apparatus are also disclosed.
