A housing assembly () for a working assembly () of an outdoor power device () may include a first, second, and third housing portion. The second and third housing portions may be operably coupled to the first housing portion to at least partially enclose a motor housing (), which may comprise a body portion (), a top endplate (), and a bottom endplate () to house an electric motor for driving the working assembly (). The first, second, and third housing portions may combine to define a first opening and a second opening () such that two opposing sides of the body portion () are exposed in respective ones of the first and second openings (). In addition, or alternatively, a gap () may separate the housing assembly () from the entirety of the top endplate (), the entirety of the body portion (), and a substantial majority of the bottom endplate ().

A battery-powered portable cutting tool includes a housing, a cutting element, an electric motor to drive the cutting element to cut, a battery to supply electric current to the motor and a control circuit to control the supply of electric current to the motor from the battery. The control circuit may include a main switch and an auxiliary switch. The control circuit may have an active state in which the main switch allows electric current to flow to the motor and an inactive state in which the main switch does not allow electric current to flow to the motor. The operation of the auxiliary switch causes the control circuit to change between the active and inactive states. The auxiliary switch is arranged to determine whether the tool is in an inappropriate state to be used and, if so, cause the control circuit to change to the inactive state.

A battery pack for powering a battery powered tool may include a housing, a plurality of cells and an electrical connection assembly. The housing may include a sidewall assembly configured to correspond to respective sidewalls of a battery compartment defined at a portion of the battery powered tool to facilitate insertion of the battery pack into the battery compartment. The sidewall assembly may form an enclosure around the plurality of cells on all sides substantially parallel to the direction of insertion. The electrical connection assembly may be disposed at a portion of the sidewall assembly to communicate the combined output to a connector disposed at a corresponding sidewall of the battery compartment. The electrical connection assembly may be arranged to engage the connector responsive to movement of the battery pack in a direction substantially parallel to the direction of insertion of the battery pack into the battery compartment.

A self-powered chainsaw, typically a battery powered chainsaw, including a housing, a power source, an endless cutting chain having a plurality of cutting elements and a motor arranged to drive the chain relative to the housing using power from the power source. An electric power tool () includes a power source () enclosed in a casing (). The power source () is a brushless DC motor () which drives a drive mechanism () for a cutting device. Further, an oil pump is at least partly housed in the casing () of the electric power tool (). The oil pump is also driven by the brushless DC motor ().

A battery-powered tool includes: a housing, a driven element supported by the housing, an electric motor coupled to the driven element so as to drive the driven element, a battery electrically coupled to the motor so as to supply electric current to the motor and a control circuit arranged to control the supply of electric current to the motor from the battery. The control circuit includes a main switch operable by a user and an auxiliary switch also operable by a user. The control circuit has an active state in which operation of the main switch by the user allows electric current to flow to the motor to cause the driven element to be driven; and an inactive state in which operation of the main switch does not allow electric current to flow to the motor and so the motor does not drive the driven element. Operation of the auxiliary switch causes the control circuit to change between the active and inactive states.

The indication may be by the light emitting devices () or a speaker (); user-uploadable sounds may be stored in a memory () of the tool to enable a user to customise the sound of their tool.

A cutting assembly for a portable hand-held power driven working tool may include a first elongate cutting blade and a second elongate cutting blade. The cutting blades are arranged to be connected to a gear, causing the cutting blades to move in a reciprocal manner along a longitudinal axis of the cutting blades. The cutting blades are arranged to be mounted so that an interior surface of the first cutting blade faces towards and abuts on an interior surface of the second cutting blade. At least one of the cutting blades has a recess extending in a longitudinal portion of the interior surface of the cutting blades, such that a gap appears between the cutting blades when they are mounted in a face-to-face relationship. The gap prevents the flow of the grease from the gearbox beyond the position of the gap on the cutting assembly.
