Antibodies are described, which are suitable for identification of &#x3b3;-carboxyglutamic acid (Gla), said antibodies having an ability of identifying Gla residues in proteins and/or peptides, while not reacting with glutamic (Glu) residues in corresponding proteins and/or peptides. Methods for the preparation and identification of said antibodies as well as methods for detection of Gla in biological fluids, tissue extracts, tissue specimens, in which methods said antibodies are used, are also described. There is also described the use of said antibodies for immunopurification of Gla-containing proteins or peptides by, for instance, immunoprecipitation or immunoaffinity chromatography.

The present invention relates to a monoclonal antibody suitable for monitoring the activity of systems involving protein C inhibitor, a method for preparation of the monoclonal antibody, a method for monitoring the activity of systems involving protein C inhibitor and a method for diagnosis of e.g. venous thrombosis, wherein the monoclonal antibody is utilized. The monoclonal antibody is suitable for monitoring the activity of systems involving protein C inhibitor, and it has specific affinity for both i) a complex between a serine proteinase and an inhibitor thereof, and ii) a cleaved and uncomplexed form of the inhibitor, but has substantially no specific affinity for the inhibitor in its uncleaved and uncomplexed form; or a derivative thereof having the same biological activity.

Disclosed are a transformed mammalian cell that produces biologically active Protein S, and a vector for effecting the transformation of the cell. produces biologically active human Protein S, and the vector used to effect the transgenesis of the cell. The vector disclosed includes DNA encoding mature human Protein S, under the transcriptional control of a eukaryotic metallothionein gene, and also includes the transforming region of the bovine papilloma virus genome, and a fragment of SV40 DNA.
