A particle sensor includes an aperture for receiving a gas flow with entrained particles, an electrostatic particle charging section, a parallel-plate particle precipitation section; and a sensor for detecting precipitated particles to produce a sensor signal. The sensor signal Iis related to an apparent particle number concentration of the particles in the gas flow entering the charging section by a calibration constant S, such that I=f(N, S), the calibration constant being dependent on a count mean diameter of the particles in the gas flow entering the charging section according to a first relationship. The particle sensor includes a pre-filter positioned upstream from the charging section, the pre-filter filtering a part of the particles from the gas flow entering the pre-filter, a fractional degree of particle filtering depending on the count mean particle diameter of the particles entering the pre-filter according to a second relationship.

Particle sensor and sensing method

The present application relates to an apparatus for purifying and/or humidifying air, and a related method for purifying and/or humidifying air. The apparatus comprises a rotary filter (), a fan () for passing air through the rotary filter (), and a reservoir (), and wherein the rotation speed of the rotary filter () and the settings of the fan () depend on the ambient relative humidity and ambient gas pollutant concentration. The apparatus combines the feature of chemisorption with the use of a rotary filter (), thereby providing an apparatus which is able to purify air and/or regulate the ambient humidity based on humidity levels and levels of a target gas pollutant in the air. Device for characterizing a size distribution of electrically-charged airborne particles in an air flow

The invention relates to a controlling system for controlling an air handling system that is arranged to handle air in an enclosure such as a cabin of a vehicle. The controlling system comprises a first sensing unit, a second sensing unit, and a controller. The first sensing unit is arranged to generate a first output signal based on a measurement of the 5 concentration of certain airborne pollutants at the upstream side of an air cleaning unit that is comprised in the air handling system. The second sensing unit is arranged to generate a second output signal based on a measurement of the concentration of certain airborne pollutants at the downstream side of the air cleaning unit. The first output signal and the second output signal are used for specific purposes in a decision-making process that can be 10 performed by the controller. The controller is arranged to switch the air handling system into recirculation mode when the first output signal exceeds a predetermined threshold value. Furthermore, the controller is arranged to fine-tune settings of the air handling system, such as the mixing ratio of air admitted from outside the enclosure and recirculating air from the enclosure in the total air flow passing through the air handling system when the air handling 15 system operates in an outside-air-inlet mode. The controlling system according to the invent ion has an increased functionality and can maintain an acceptable air quality inside an enclosed space under a large variety of circumstances.

The electrostatic particle filter includes a filter medium () with first and second opposite sides, a first electrode () and a second electrode (), the first electrode () and second electrode () being conformally provided on the first and second sides of the filter medium (), respectively. The first electrode (), the second electrode (), and the filter medium () are arranged to allow an electrical conduction current through the filter medium (). The disclosure relates to an air pollution sensor system incorporated in an enclosure, the enclosure including an air handling system inside an air duct, the air duct enabling a communication between air inside the enclosure and air outside the enclosure. The air duct including an air inlet for receiving air and an air outlet for releasing handled air inside the enclosure. The invention relates to an ultra fine particle sensor () for sensing airborne particles with a diameter in a range of approximately 1-500 nm. The sensor comprises an air inlet () for entry of a flow of ultra fine particles and a concentration variation section () capable of causing a variation of the concentration of ultra fine particles between at least a first concentration level and a second concentration level during at least one time interval. A particle sensing section () is provided capable of producing a measurement signal (I) varying in dependence of said variation between said first concentration level and said second concentration level. An evaluation unit () is provided capable of deriving data relating to said ultra fine particles form said varying measurement signal. As a result of the applied variation in the concentration level, data can be obtained from the resulting variation of the measurement signal which relate to the length concentration and number concentration of airborne ultra fine particles per unit volume.
