The invention relates to an electronic device and a method for managing the keyboard of the electronic device. The electronic device comprises a keyboard and a processing unit connected to the keyboard over a data transmission connection, the processing unit being configured to determine the appearance of the keyboard, receive information generated by pressing of a keyboard key and identify the key that was pressed on the basis of the information. The processing unit is also configured to collect information on the key presses and carry out an analysis of them, and to re-determine the appearance of the keyboard on the basis of the collected information and the analysis carried out so as to make the keyboard more ergonomic for the user, which makes the use of the keyboard easier and/or the pressing of a wrong key less likely.

Electronic device and method for managing its keyboard

The invention relates to an electronic device and a method of managing a virtual keyboard of the electronic device. The device comprises a touch pad (), a processing unit () and a feedback unit (), which provides tactile feedback unit () for the user. The processing unit () is configured to determine a virtual keyboard () for the touch pad () and a tactile appearance of the keyboard (), receive information generated by the pressing of a keyboard () key and identify the key that was pressed on the basis of the information. The processing unit () is further configured to collect information on the key presses and carry out an analysis of them, and re-determine the tactile appearance of the keyboard () on the basis of the collected information and the analysis carried out so as to make the keyboard more ergonomic for the user, which makes it easier to use the keyboard () and/or the pressing of a wrong key less likely.

Electronic device and method of managing its keyboard

A mobile communication device, such as a mobile telephone, may be equipped with sensors for monitoring acceleration, noise level, luminosity and humidity. During a learning phase in the operation of the device, data from the sensors may be stored and associated with particular time segments. Usage of the device is monitored during the learning phase and associated with the sensor data. If a pattern of usage is detected for certain sensor levels, a rule for future similar situations is recognized and stored by the device. In a usage phase, the stored rules are applied to change a user interface of the device when similar future situations are encountered. The learning and usage phases of the device may overlap.
