A method in a wireless device for performing random access to a network node. The method comprises receiving a set of downlink beam-specific reference signals, BRS, from the network node, and determining a preferred BRS based on the received signal power for each BRS. The method also comprises selecting, based on the preferred BRS, a random-access resource to be used for transmitting a random-access attempt to the network node, as well as using the selected random-access resource when transmitting a random-access attempt to the network node, whereby the selection of random-access resource indicates to the network node which downlink beam is preferred by the wireless device to be used for downlink transmissions.

System and method for beam-based physical random-access

Methods and apparatus in a fifth-generation wireless communications, including an example method, in a wireless device, that includes receiving a downlink signal comprising an uplink access configuration index, using the uplink access configuration index to identify an uplink access configuration from among a predetermined plurality of uplink access configurations, and transmitting to the wireless communications network according to the identified uplink access configuration. The example method further includes, in the same wireless device, receiving, in a first subframe, a first Orthogonal Frequency-Division Multiplexing (OFDM) transmission formatted according to a first numerology and receiving, in a second subframe, a second OFDM transmission formatted according to a second numerology, the second numerology differing from the first numerology. Variants of this method, corresponding apparatuses, and corresponding network-side methods and apparatuses are also disclosed.

Network architecture, methods, and devices for a wireless communications network

A method, performed in a User Equipment (UE), is disclosed. The method is for facilitating the establishing of a UE processing configuration for the selective enhancement of radio signals received or transmitted by the UE. The method comprises receiving from a Transmission Point (TP) of a wireless network an indication that an identified reference signal is usable by the UE for establishing a UE processing configuration, and receiving the identified reference signal from a Transmission Point of the wireless network.

Methods and apparatus relating to selective enhancement of radio signals

Radio alignment of downlink and uplink channels between a wireless device and a multi-antenna base station. A method performed by a network node comprises obtaining downlink channel data, wherein the downlink channel data comprises: estimates of a plurality of downlink channels each associated with a downlink reference signal being received from one of the antennas at the wireless device, and time synchronization information associated with each of the downlink channels; obtaining uplink channel data, wherein the uplink channel data comprises: estimates of a plurality of uplink channels each associated with an uplink reference signal being received at one of the antennas from the wireless device, and time synchronization information associated with each of the uplink channels; comparing the downlink channel data and the uplink channel data to determine whether the downlink channel and uplink channel between the wireless device and the multi-antenna base station are aligned.

Methods and apparatuses for providing transmit/receive relative radio alignment verification

Systems and methods are disclosed for transmission and reception of an uplink grant during a gap created in radio resources assigned by a previous multiple Transmit Time Interval (multi-TTI) uplink grant in a system operating according to a Time Division Duplexing (TDD) scheme. In one embodiment, a method of operation of a wireless device operating according to a TDD scheme in a cellular communications network includes: receiving a first uplink grant from a radio network node that assigns first radio resources for a first multiple transmit time interval uplink transmission, the first radio resources comprising a set of consecutive subframes; and interrupting an uplink transmission on the first radio resources during a gap in the first radio resources assigned for the first multiple transmit time interval uplink transmission, the gap comprising a time domain gap within the set of consecutive subframes.

Uplink multi-TTI scheduling in TDD system

A wireless device and a method therein for assisting in precoder selection for wireless communication with a Radio Node (RN), and a RN for performing precoder selection for wireless communication with a wireless device. The wireless device is configured with a set of precoders. The wireless device determines a subset of precoders out of the set of precoders; and transmits, to the RN, at least one Sounding Reference Signal (SRS) precoded with a respective at least one precoder comprised in the subset. The RN receives, from the wireless device, at least one SRS precoded with a respective at least one precoder comprised in a subset of precoders; and transmits, to the wireless device, a signal indicative of a selected precoder to be used for a transmission to the RN, wherein the selected precoder is indirectly selected based on the received at least one SRS.

Methods and apparatus in a fifth-generation wireless communications network, including an example method, in a wireless device, that includes determining a reporting quality threshold for a parameter related to channel state information (CSI); performing a measurement for each of a plurality of beams from a first predetermined set of beams for evaluation; evaluating the measurement for each of the plurality of beams against the reporting quality threshold; discontinuing the performing and evaluating of measurements in response to determining that the reporting quality threshold is met for one of the beams, such that one or more beams in the first predetermined set of beams are not measured and evaluated; and reporting, to the wireless communications network, CSI for the one of the beams.

Embodiments herein relate to a method performed by a radio network node for handling transmission of data from a wireless device in a wireless communication network. The radio network node determines a delay value for a transmission of data from the wireless device based on a transmission type of data from the wireless device or a capability of the wireless device. The capability is related to a processing time for processing received data from the radio network node, or for processing data for transmission to the radio network node. The radio network node further transmits an indication, to the wireless device, which indication indicates the determined delay value.

Delaying transmission depending on transmission type and UE processing capabilities

Embodiments herein relate to method performed by a radio-network node for handling a data transmission, from a wireless device to the radio-network node, in a wireless communication network. The radio-network node schedules one or more resources for carrying an uplink data transmission from the wireless device over a channel, and for carrying a feedback transmission, of a downlink data transmission from the radio-network node, over the same channel. The radio-network node transmits a control message to the wireless device, which control message indicates the one or more resources scheduled for carrying the uplink data transmission and the feedback transmission over the same channel.

Radio-network node, wireless device and methods performed therein

A system and method of Random-Access Response, RAR, messaging when a base station employs narrow beamforming. Multiple RAR messages are successively transmitted from the base station to a User Equipment, UE, before any response to a RAR message is received from the UE. Thus, despite any calibration mismatch between Uplink, UL, and Downlink, DL, beams in the beamformed system, a RAR message is not only received by the UE, but is received over the most-suitable DL beam for that UE. Each RAR message may contain a message-specific scheduling-delay indicator in the UL grant carried in the RAR message to provide an adjustable time delay for the UE's uplink transmission scheduled by the UL grant. Multiple RAR transmissions can schedule a single UL transmission at a specific time instance or different UL transmissions at different time intervals. The UE may report to the base station the best DL RAR transmission detected by the UE.

Random-access response with analog beamforming

A guard period for switching between uplink and downlink subframes is created by shortening an uplink subframe, i.e., by not transmitting during one or more symbol intervals at the beginning of the subframe interval. A grant message includes signaling indicating when a shortened subframe should be transmitted. An example method is implemented in a first wireless node configured to transmit data in transmit subframes occurring at defined subframe intervals and having a predetermined number of symbol intervals. This example method includes determining that a transmit subframe is to be shortened, relative to the predetermined number of symbol intervals and, in response to this determination, shortening transmission of the transmit subframe by not transmitting during a beginning portion of the subframe interval for the transmit subframe and transmitting during the remainder of the subframe interval.

Uplink subframe shortening in time-division duplex (TDD) systems

Methods are disclosed which can be performed by a network node for sending to a wireless device a first synchronization signal and an associated information message, for synchronization of the wireless device with the network node. The network node and the wireless device operate in a wireless communications network. The network node sends the first synchronization signal in N OFDM symbols within a subframe, at least once in a time and frequency position in every one of the N OFDM symbols. N is equal or larger than 2. For each sending of the first synchronization signal, the network node sends an associated information message at a pre-defined time and frequency position in an OFDM symbol. The pre-defined time and frequency position is relative to the time and frequency position of the first synchronization signal. The associated information message is associated with the first synchronization signal.

Accessing a cell utilizing a multiple beam network

A guard period for switching between uplink and downlink subframes is created by shortening a downlink subframe, i.e., by not transmitting during one or more symbol intervals at the end of the subframe. A grant message includes signaling indicating when a shortened subframe is being transmitted. An example method is implemented in a receiving node configured to receive data from a transmitting node in subframes having a predetermined number of symbol intervals. In an LTE system, this receiving node may be a UE, and the subframes are downlink subframes. This example method includes determining that a received subframe is to be shortened, relative to the predetermined number of symbol intervals and, in response to this determination, disregarding a last part of the received subframe by disregarding one or more symbols at the end of the received subframe when processing the received subframe.
