The present disclosure discloses a needle shielding device for a catheter instrument extending along a longitudinal axis A, comprising an inner part comprising an inner part track extending along said axis A, a middle part comprising a middle part track extending along the axis A, and an internal middle part engagement, an outer grip part, comprising a needle hub, holding a needle extending along the axis A, and grip part internal engagement. The grip part internal engagement is configured to slidingly engage the middle part track, and the middle part engagement is configured to slidingly engage the inner part track such that the inner part, the middle part and the grip part are telescopingly slidable in relation to one another.

Needle shielding device

An extravascular system is provided which includes a catheter assembly and a needle assembly. The needle assembly includes a needle cap containing a needle shield. The needle shield may be a V-clip having a pawl. The pawl may communicate with an extension on the needle shield by forming a bend between the pawl and the extension. The bend may include at least one dent, and the dent may be formed within the center of the bend. Alternatively, the bend may include a plurality of dents. The plurality of dents may be placed at various locations over the pawl width. The pawl may be folded back onto itself. Indeed, the pawl may be folded back on itself to form essentially a pawl of double thickness. In addition, the pawl may be constructed with a bend of various angles. The angle of the bend between the pawl and the extension may be less than 90&#xb0;. The angle may be in the range of from about 90&#xb0; and about 70&#xb0;. The pawl may also include a corrugated design or structure.

Needle shielding pawl structures

An extravascular system for accessing the vasculature of a patient may include a catheter, a needle disposed within the catheter, and/or a needle tip shield assembly. The needle tip shield assembly may have a needle cap, the needle cap may have a needle shield, and the needle shield may have one or more flags. The flags may include a first flag and a second flag. The first flag and the second flag may form an engageable barrier through which the needle cannot penetrate once the barrier is engaged. The needle shield may be a V-clip. The V-clip may include a first arm and a second arm, and the first flag may be secured to the first arm while the second flag may be secured to the second arm.

Needle shielding flag structures

An extravascular system for accessing the vasculature of a patient including a catheter having an interior surface, a needle disposed within the catheter, and/or a needle cap defining at least one capillary space and including a flexible seal surrounding the at least one capillary space. The flexible seal may engage the interior surface of the catheter. A method of controlling exposure to a liquid from an extravascular system including providing a wicking material positioned adjacent to a flow channel such that any fluid located external to the flow channel is retained by the wicking material. The wicking material may be incorporated into any extravascular system where exposure to liquids is undesirable.

Vascular access device blood sealing and exposure prevention

An apparatus for preventing blood exposure or contamination upon withdrawal of a hypodermic needle is provided. The apparatus may include a needle having a tip and a shield configured to at least partially entrap the needle tip upon withdrawal of the needle. The apparatus may further include a blood stabilizing material disposed such that upon withdrawal of the needle the blood stabilizing material is disposed in operative association with the needle tip such that blood carried by the needle is prevented from escaping the apparatus. In some exemplary implementations, the blood stabilizing material may be disposed on one or more surfaces of the shield. The shield of the hypodermic needle may include protective device and/or a housing for shielding the needle tip upon withdrawal. The housing may be adapted to at least partially cover the needle tip upon withdrawal of the needle. In some implementations, the housing may be adapted to allow the protective device to shield the needle before the needle is completely withdrawn.

Blood exposure prevention in vascular access devices

An extravascular system for accessing the vasculature of a patient may include a catheter adapter, a needle, and/or a needle tip shield assembly. The needle tip shield assembly may have a needle cap, and the needle cap may have a needle shield and at least one low friction surface. The needle may be disposed within the catheter assembly and the needle tip shield assembly. The low friction surface may reside between the needle shield and the needle. The at least one low friction surface may reside on the needle, on the V-clip, and/or on a structure located between the needle and the V-clip.
