Disclosed are processes for producing lipids for biofuel or lubricant andbacteria used in the processes. The processes include steps whereby bacterial cells of the germsare cultivated in a medium comprising organic waste(s) or residue(s) or mixtures thereof as carbon and/or nutrient source(s), wherein the organic waste(s) or residue(s) comprise lignocellulosic waste(s) or lignocellulosic residue(s), recovering lipids from the cells of the bacteria or from the cultivation medium, and using the recovered lipids or a fraction thereof as biofuel and/or lubricant, or as a starting material for biofuel and/or lubricant production.

The invention relates to a process for producing a new type of high-quality hydrocarbon base oil of biological origin. The process of the invention comprises ketonization, hydrodeoxygenation, and isomerization steps. Fatty acids and/or fatty acid esters based on a biological raw material are preferably used as the feedstock.

Process for producing a hydrocarbon component

The present invention relates to a method for the deoxygenation of materials of biological origin and particularly to the removal of oxygen from biomass derived organic compounds with carbon monoxide, to yield linear and branched hydrocarbons suitable as biofuels or as blending stocks or components for biofuels, such as gas, gasoline, diesel fuel and aviation fuel, as well as solvents. The method comprises contacting a feedstock with carbon monoxide in the presence of a catalyst comprising a metal selected from a group consisting of ruthenium, manganese, rhodium, rhenium, osmium, iridium, molybdenum, copper, zinc, palladium, platinum and cobalt, in the presence of water, under alkaline conditions at a temperature from 150 to 350&#xb0; C. and under a pressure from 0.1 to 150 bar, to produce hydrocarbons.

Deoxygenation of materials of biological origin

The invention relates to a process for producing a new type of high-quality hydrocarbon base oil of biological origin. The process of the invention comprises ketonisation, hydrodeoxygenation, and isomerization steps. Fatty acids and/or fatty acid esters based on a biological raw material are preferably used as the feedstock.

The object of the present invention is a biodegradable polymer network and methods to make it. The polymer network consists of a cross-linked polyester resin, which is composed of hydroxy acid units, structural units derived from an unsaturated bifunctional monomer, and structural units derived from a polyol monomer. The polyester resin is produced directly by a polyoon-densation reaction, after which it is cross-linked to a polymer of high molecular weight The polyester can be co-polymerised with a co-monomer increasing flexibility, or be blended with a reactive macromonomer, which adds elasticity and crosslinking density. The prepared polymer network can be especially used to coat continuous or singular objects made of fibrous, porous, biomass based or inorganic materials, or as a blending component in these, or used to impregnate these in order to induce water durability, barrier properties, elasticity, coherence or mechanical strength.

Biodegradable coating

A processable poly(hydroxy acid) composition which has been stabilized by adding to the polymer during the melt processing stage 0.05-3% by weight of a peroxy compound the degradation of which produces one or more acid radicals, and which has good melt strength and elasticity. The melt strength is high enough to produce films with conventional methods as the film blowing method.

A two-step process is described for the polymerization of lactide to polylactide, in which process in the first step polymerization is carried out to a conversion of at least 50% by weight, and in the latter step the polylactide is polymerized further to a high conversion in conditions in which the mixing of the melt and the evaporation of the lactide are avoided.

The invention relates to a method for the removal of lactide from polylactide and recovery of lactide from a lactide-containing gas by cooling the hot lactide-containing gas, wherein a polymer melt traveling through a nozzle forms thin threads the surface area of which is so large that in a normal-pressure or vacuum evaporator the lactide evaporates from the polymer rapidly into a hot carrier-gas flow and the polymer settles under gravity onto a collecting device. A hot lactide-containing gas is cooled rapidly to a temperature below 100&deg; C., whereupon the lactide crystallizes from gas, forming lactide crystals, which are separated from the gas.

The present invention relates to a production method of lactic acid-based polyurethanes. In the first phase of the product ion, the monomeric lactic acid is polymerized into an oligomer, the molecular weight thereof being about 500 to 10,000. Next, the oligomer thus obtained is copolymerized with an isocyanate reacting with the free hydroxyl and carboxyl groups thereof into polyurethane with a high molecular weight. To make the oligomer react with diol prior to the copolymerization is unnecessary according to the invention. The lactic acid used need not be absolutely pure, and by modifying the process, various biodegradable end products can be obtained therefrom, which according to the invention are appropriate for the material of disposable packages, agricultural film or planting pots, or as a coating of fertilizer granules.
