An apparatus including a light conversion element including an input interface for receiving input light; an output interface for providing output light having at least one different, lower frequency than the input light; and a plurality of light guides extending between the input interface and the output interface that suspend down-conversion material at remote locations from the input interface, wherein the down-conversion material is configured to down-convert the received input light to produce the provided output light of lower frequency or frequencies.

Method, apparatus and/or computer program for controlling light output of a display

A display device that has an excellent visibility even under strong light is provided. In the display device, a first display element that reflects visible light and a second display element that emits visible light are between a first substrate and a second substrate. The display device can display an image with high visibility by operating the first display element under strong light and operating the second display element under weak light. Furthermore, a first surface of the second substrate is provided with a touch sensor, and a second surface opposite to the first surface is provided with an anti-reflection layer. Such a structure can sufficiently reduce reflection of external light on the display surface under strong light, further increasing the visibility.

A method and an apparatus for spectrum synthesis for use in a flash unit, wherein the spectrum synthesis includes combining a plurality of emissive light sources in order to provide a combine output beam and producing the output spectrum for the combined output beam at least based on a reference spectrum. The reference spectrum can be obtained by sensing the spectrum of ambient light or selected from a plurality of stored spectra. The flash unit has at least two emissive light sources and each of the light sources can be adjusted relative to each other so that the outputs from the light sources can mimic a selected illumination scenario. It is possible to use a mixture of quantum dots to tailor each light source so that the combined spectra from different light sources can reasonably mimic a number of frequently used illumination scenario.

The specification and drawings present a new method, apparatus and software product for increasing a grey dynamic range of a display for displaying video data by providing a grey level, calculated for a reduced number of primary colors using a predetermined criterion, for each field of a frame set by the display by varying an amplitude or a subfield composition of a display driving signal and by varying a fluence of simultaneously lit backlight sources (e.g., LEDs) corresponding to selected two or more primary colors of the display. Thus, grey level resolution of the display can be increased to match the higher grey level resolution of the video data provided to the display.

Displays with large dynamic range

The specification and drawings present a new method, apparatus and software product for dynamically adjusting a color gamut of a display (e.g., a field sequential color display) and further adjusting a luminance of the display in an electronic device by adjusting and turning on field duties of primary colors. During each color field, the other primary colors of light sources supporting the display can be turned on at their respective fractions of their color field. These fractions can be continuously tunable in order to control the color coordinate of each primary color dynamically thus adjusting the color gamut and the luminance of the display.

A combined input/output device having a display mode in which it operates as a matrix display and sensing mode in which it receives optical input, comprising multiple picture element circuits arranged as a matrix display and multiple optical sensors arranged as a sensor matrix. The optical sensors and pixel circuits are integrated on the same substrate and the control lines used for controlling the pixel circuits are advantageously re-used for controlling the optical sensors. A plurality of optical sensors are enabled at a time, thereby allowing for the discrimination of inputs by gesture.
