A system and method is provided that facilitates computing surfaces for layers of a multi-layer part. The system may include at least one processor configured to determine a plurality of surfaces for layers of at least one material that form a multi-layer part by repeatedly carrying out a level set method computation. The level set method computation may be carried out relative to an interface surface that propagates outwardly with each determined surface for each layer with respect to an initial surface, based on data that defines at least one thickness of the material in each layer and at least one drop-off rate of the material at a boundary of the material in each layer.

System and method for computing surfaces in a multi-layer part

Various disclosed embodiments include a method to be performed by a data processing system and including identifying an original curve and an intended location of a new curve in a CAD model. The method also includes generating a transition curve from the original curve. The method further includes determining a displacement function of the new curve and applying the displacement function to the transition curve. The displacement function includes two or more control points. The method includes combining the two or more control points into one transition curve control point. The method also includes adjusting the transition curve control point based on a fullness value so that transition curve overlays the location of the new curve.

Seam modification for 3D CAD models

Apparatus and methods for designing multilayer structures are described. The multilayer structures may be of simple or complex shapes having a volume to be filled by multiple layers of composite material. The composite material may include fiber/polymer composites. The methods facilitate distribution and reordering of layers within the multilayer structure during the design phase. Dimensional data for each layer within the structure may be provided as output data and used to cut 'flat' patterns for each layer. The methods and apparatus can accelerate design and development of high-strength, composite multilayer structures.
