A lightning and storm warning system capable of distinguishing lightning flashes from other light flashes and indicating to an operator of the existence of a lightning flash even under high ambient illumination conditions. The device may include a visual display indicating the severity and location of the storm and providing an indication of the time progression of the lightning rate.

Storm warning system

A lightning and strobe light detector and warning system capable of distinguishing strobe light and lightning flashes and indicating to an operator of the existence of a flash even under high illumination background conditions. The device may comprise a plurality of detectors and therefore not only distinguish between the strobe and lighting flashes but also indicate the direction of a flash.

Optical warning system

A device to remove the dead band in atmospheric electric potential measurements while maintaining a low leakage path to ground. In one embodiment the device comprises a AC high voltage source connected through a high ohm resistor and capacitor network to a sharp corona point and a means for measuring the current through the corona point.

Atmospheric potential measurement device

A radioactivity detection system including a crystal detector formed of a unitary body and having two sensing heads. Each sensing head defines a specific address location in a sensing array having a plurality of detectors. A number of detectors are superposed on the sensing array such that activity in one sensing head activates two adjacent detectors, one more than the other. The system further includes means for mounting the detectors for relative motion with respect to a subject and processing means coupled to the detectors. Preferably, the mounting means is operatively connected to an exercising means for stress analysis. Preferably, the mounting means is secured on a movable platform and is connected to the exercising means by a quick connect-disconnect mechanism. In a further embodiment, a detector assembly is designed for rotation about the subject.

Radioactivity detection system

A gain adjuster circuit is disclosed for adjusting the gain of a plurality of photomultiplier tubes (PMT's) by digital circuitry. The circuit includes a plurality of PMT's, each having a specific internal resistance. A plurality of switches and resistances are connected in series with the PMT's. The digital circuitry is designed for adjusting the effective resistances thereof, to adjust thereby the voltage across each of the several PMT's. Preferably, the digital circuitry includes a demultiplexer coupled, via the switches and resistances, to the PMT's, a flip-flop coupled to the demultiplexer, and a presettable counter coupled to the flip-flop.

Digital gain adjuster circuit for photomultiplier tubes

A pulse processor for use in a scintillation counter for converting detected scintillations to coded digital signals. The pulse processor includes means for receiving detected scintillations, a delay member coupled to the means, and bistable means coupled to both the means and the delay member for generating coded digital signals responsive to the detected scintillations. The width of the digital signals is proportional to the height of the detected scintillations.

Pulse processor

A crystal detector array, particularly for a high resolution radioactivity distribution detection system, with a plurality of crystal assemblies that are disposed in rows and columns and define a sensing array. Each crystal assembly is provided with four sensing heads. Each head is a quadrant of the crystal assembly and is identified by a unique address location in the array. A plurality of detectors are superimposed on the sensing array. Certain ones of the detectors are in registration with one sensing head of four crystal assemblies in adjacent rows and columns. Radioactive events emitted from a subject under diagnosis activate selected ones of the sensing heads. Light signals generated by the activated heads are detected by the detectors and processed to provide a presentation of radioactivity distribution within the subject under diagnosis.

Radioactivity distribution detection system and crystal detector assembly

A display system in which a video signal derived from digital data is processed in a processor in order to produce an analog image of the digital data on a cathode-ray tube display by intensity modulation of the display beam according to an approximate two-dimensional Gaussian spread function centered about each digital data point.
