A handheld surgical instrument having a handpiece and a shaft extending from the handpiece is provided. The instrument includes a cutting implement disposed at a distal end of the shaft and an articulation portion disposed proximate to the cutting implement. The articulation portion includes a set of first slits and a set of second slits opposite the first set of slits. The articulation portion also has first and second passageways disposed in the slits along with first and second flat pull wires disposed in the passageways. The instrument also has an articulation control assembly that includes an articulator having first and second anchor points coupled with the first and second flat pull wires. The articulator moves the first flat pull wire in a first direction and moves the second flat pull wire in a second direction opposite the first direction during actuation.

Articulating debrider blade tip and handpiece control

Disclosed herein are systems and methods for a debrider blade assembly for improving cutting performance of a malleable blade. The system comprising of a malleable outer blade extending from a first end to a second end, an external surface and internal surface, the external surface including a plurality of openings and the internal surface defining an internal lumen. The system further comprising of a flexible inner blade at least partially disposed within the internal lumen of the outer blade, the flexible inner blade including a bendable segment formed from or covered by a flexible wrap. A covering member covering at least a portion of the flexible wrap or bendable segment of the flexible inner blade, and a helical coil extending around at least a portion of the covering member.

Method to improve cutting performance of a malleable blade

A medical device may include a handpiece having a housing and a drive system arranged within the housing. The drive system may be adapted to operate a tool in direct contact with human matter of a patient at a treatment site. The device may also include a suction system integrated into the drive system and configured to remove human matter from the treatment site. The device may also include a motor removably attached to the housing and configured for delivering rotational power to the drive system while avoiding contact with the human matter.

A disposable attachment of the handheld surgical instrument having a distal section extending from the handpiece is provided. The disposable attachment has a proximal tube extending from the disposable attachment. The distal section includes an outer tube and a flexible shaft disposed within the outer tube. The flexible shaft couples with the proximal tube via a proximal coupler at a proximal end of the flexible shaft. The distal section also has an irrigation hypotube, a cooling orifice, and a cutting implement. The irrigation hypotube is disposed on an outer surface of the outer tube and the cooling orifice is disposed at a distal end of the distal section. The cutting implement is disposed at a distal end of the distal section opposite the handpiece.

A rotatable surgical instrument, system, and method includes an outer tubular member and an inner tubular member contained, at least in part, within the outer tubular member and configured to rotate relative to the outer tubular member. A distal tip is coupled to and configured to rotate with the inner tubular member, the distal tip forming a channel around a portion of the distal tip. A bearing is rotatably positioned within the channel, wherein the channel inhibits radial and axial movement of the bearing, with respect to the distal tip, along a major axis of the outer tubular member and inner tubular member, and wherein the bearing is configured to inhibit deflection of the distal tip from the major axis.

A biliary diagnostic device comprises a tubular body comprising an outer wall and an internal lumen, and a biliary diagnostic sensor comprising for analyzing biological matter in contact with the tubular body. A method of guiding an endoscope to a bile duct comprises inserting the endoscope into a duodenum, engaging a sensor with biological matter, electrically analyzing biological matter with the sensor to identify an electrical parameter, identifying liver bile in the biological matter from the electrical parameter, and guiding the endoscope through the duodenum based on the bile. A method of identifying biological matter comprises engaging a medical device sensor with biological matter in a bile duct, electrically analyzing biological matter with the sensor to identify an electrical parameter, identifying biological matter from a liver, pancreas or gall bladder from the electrical parameter, and outputting indicia of the biological matter to a user of the medical device.

A medical device for debridement can include an elongate housing, a shaft extending through the housing and distally therefrom, a drive to manipulate the cutter, and a collapsible handle than can to couple with the housing. An elongate grip of the handle can turn aft and be at least partially disposed in the elongate housing for use of the device with pen grip. The elongate grip of the handle can turn fore and extend distally from the housing for use of the device with pistol grip.

A medical device includes an outer tubular member, a middle tubular member received within the outer tubular member, an inner tubular member received within the middle tubular member, and an engagement gear, wherein the inner tubular member is configured to be rotatable in one direction while the middle tubular member is configured to be simultaneously rotatable in an opposite direction through the engagement gear while the outer tubular member is configured to be stationary relative to both the middle tubular member and the inner tubular member.

The electrosurgical device can include an elongated member configured to be attached to an elongated shaft of an endoscope, the elongated member including a distal portion that, when axially extended beyond a distal end of the shaft, bends toward a longitudinal axis of the shaft. The electrosurgical device can include an electrode exposed at the distal portion of the elongated member. The electrosurgical device can include an electrical interconnect coupling the electrode to an electrosurgical energy connection at a proximal portion of the elongated member.

Electrosurgical attachment device

A tissue removal device, and methods of using the same, are described. An exemplary detachable, handheld tissue removal device comprises a hand piece and a blade assembly removably attachable to the hand piece. The blade assembly includes a rotatable resection member driven to rotate and surgically remove tissue from a target tissue site, and a coupling assembly including a locking member to detachably couple the blade assembly to the hand piece and operatively enable or disable the rotation of the blade assembly relative to the hand piece. The rotation of the blade assembly causes a change in rotating angle of the blade assembly. The coupling assembly can secure the rotating angle of the blade assembly during the tissue resection procedure.

Detachable handheld tissue removal device

A device having a hub assembly and a lever coupled with the hub assembly is provided. The device includes a sheath coupled with the lever and extending from the hub assembly. The sheath has a surgical elevator with a surgical elevator edge along with a hypotube having an access hole. The device has a shaver blade assembly with an outer shaft having an outer blade and an inner blade within the outer blade. The outer shaft has a stop and an access hole near the outer and inner blades. The sheath partially surrounds the outer shaft and the lever moves between a first position and a second position. In the first position, the surgical elevator edge abuts the outer shaft stop and the outer shaft access hole aligns with the hypotube access hole. In the second position, the surgical elevator edge is spaced apart from the outer shaft stop.

Retractable elevator instrument shaver blade with flush/lavage features

An endoscope can comprise a proximal section, an insertion section extending longitudinally from the proximal section and comprising an elongate tubular body disposed along an insertion section longitudinal axis and a lumen extending through the elongate tubular body, and a distal section extending from the insertion section and comprising an elevator portion comprising an elevator configured to position and orient one or more endotherapy tools extending from the lumen, and a camera module comprising an illumination unit and an imaging unit. The camera module can be positioned longitudinally spaced apart from the elevator portion in an in-line configuration, such that the insertion tube longitudinal axis passes through the elevator portion and the camera module. The camera module can be user-detachable from the elevator portion. The camera module can be cleaned and sanitized for reuse and the insertion section can be disposable.

Endoscope with low-profile distal section

A handpiece for a handheld surgical instrument having a motor and a heatsink is provided. The motor is within a motor housing and the heat sink is disposed around and thermally coupled with the motor housing. The handpiece is formed from a material having a first thermal conductivity and the heat sink has a second thermal conductivity that is greater in value than the first thermal conductivity of the material of the handpiece. The heat sink is configured to dissipate heat from the motor during operation of the motor to the handpiece.
