A control creator for developing controls to assist in DCOM client creation. A general-purpose gateway that runs within a Distributed Component Object Model (DCOM) environment, and is capable of receiving requests from one or more different types of DCOM clients for service by an On-Line Transaction Processing (OLTP) style application running on the enterprise server. The services on the OLTP system are designed to accomplish a specific task, for example, update a user's bank account balance following a debit or credit. The DCOM Client can be any type of client, including a Visual Basic client, C++ client, or a Web Browser with Active Server Pages (ASP). The control creator in effect wraps the DCOM server with a control which largely insulates the developer from the details of the DCOM protocol.

The service requests are received by the server and routed to the appropriate one of a number of adapters. Each of the adapters convert service requests to a standardized format for input to the single generic gateway. The output of the single generic gateway is coupled through a corresponding one of a number of connectors to the end service provider for honoring.

The output of the gateway is coupled through a corresponding one of a number of connectors to the end service provider for honoring. The response is transferred from the service provider to the appropriate connector to be formatted for the requesting gateway. The response is converted by the original adapter to an HTML or XML message for transfer back to the requester via the Internet.

Generic DCOM server

A system and method which allows the interchange of Cookie information and standard Common Gateway Interface (CGI) variables between a user system and an On-Line Transaction Processing (OLTP) enterprise server. The present invention also discloses a specialized form of a transaction gateway, known as a security gateway, which runs on a Windows NT or UnixWare Web Server machine, and is built as a client application to interoperate with an enterprise-based OLTP security service. Finally, the present invention discloses an enterprise-based OLTP security service, which is used in conjunction with the security gateway described above, which processes user generated authentication requests, and if successful, calls an end service requested by a user.

Making CGI variables and cookie information available to an OLTP system

An automated development system which allows developers to more easily incorporate functionality from enterprise-based On-Line Transaction Processing (OLTP) services within an application running on a DCOM-based platform. View files (which describe how parameters will be provided to and received from an OLTP service) are transferred from the enterprise OLTP system to a DCOM environment. These view files and an associated set of interactively supplied user parameters are provided as input to a function builder utility (DGateAce) which generates function files and Interface Definition Language files as output. These output files simplify the creation of DCOM Client and Server modules which enable a DCOM application to communicate directly with an enterprise OLTP service
