Briefly, in accordance with one or more embodiments, virtualized network function resources may be managed in a network. Performance measurements may be received for at least one mobility management entity (MME) in an MME pool, or for other network elements. If at least one of the performance measurements exceeds at least one predetermined threshold, instantiation of a new mobility management entity virtual network function (MME VNF) may be requested, and the MME VNF may be instantiated in response to the request. One or more user equipment (UE) devices managed by the MME pool may be connected to the added MME VNF.

Virtualized network function management

An apparatus and system of collecting and reporting measurements for an Edge Application Server and 5generation core network (5GC) network functions (NFs) that impact EAS performance are described. An application service provider (ASP) receives EAS performance measurements from edge computing service provider (ECSP) management system. The ECSP management system receives from the PLMN management system performance measurements from the 5GC NF that impact edge computing applications. The measurements are used to evaluate the end-to-end EAS performance, and determine actions to mitigate any issues based thereon.

Edge application servers and 5GC network function measurements

Systems and methods of managing creation and configuration for 5G networks, NFs and NSSIs are provided. An instantiation or configuration request received from a managed entity respectively instantiates or configures the appropriate element. For NF instantiation, when the NF has a virtualized part to be instantiated by a VNF, interaction with an NFV MANO system instantiates the VNF is followed by NF instantiation notification and MOI creation for the NF. For NF configuration, the NF is configured and notification provided thereof. For network instantiation, after reception of a network creation request, interaction with the system to instantiate a NS that realizes the network is followed by determination that a new VNF associated with the NS has been instantiated, creation of a NF (constituting the network) MOI is realized by the new VNF, and NF configuration. For NSSI creation, a NF constituting the NSSI is created and configured.

Management services for 5G networks and network functions

Techniques discussed herein can facilitate one or more of improvements to Automatic Neighbor Relation(s) (ANR(s)) for cell(s) of a Radio Access Network (RAN), configuration of Physical-layer Cell Identifier(s) for cell(s) of the RAN, and/or end-to-end performance assurance for the RAN based on 5G QoS Identifier (5QI) targets and/or requirements. Various embodiments can employ one or more of the techniques discussed herein, for example, at a component or service of a Fifth Generation (5G) Core Network (5GC), a Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) Management System, or a node of a Radio Access Network (RAN).

Physical layer cell identifier (PCI) configuration and automatic neighbor relations (ANR) for 5G networks

Some embodiments of this disclosure include systems, apparatuses, methods, and computer-readable media for use in a wireless network for deploying User Plane Function (UPF) and edge computing virtualized network functions (VNF). For example, some embodiments are directed to a network management system. The network management system includes processor circuitry. The processor circuitry can be configured to transmit a request to an edge computing management system to instantiate an edge computing virtualized network function (VNF). The request can include an identifier of a Network Service (NS) where a User Plane Function (UPF) VNF supporting the edge computing VNF is located. The processor circuitry can be further configured to receive, from the edge computing management system, a response indicating that the edge computing VNF is instantiated.

An apparatus and system of adjusting network slice subnet instance (NSSI) resources in an open-radio access network (O-RAN) are described. The non-real time RAN Intelligent Controller (Non-RT RIC) framework of a Service Management and Orchestration (SMO), receives measurements from E2 nodes of a NSSI. The measurements are forwarded to an rApp in the SMO, which uses the measurements to determine whether one or more actions are to be executed to update NSSI resources on the E2 nodes based on an NSSI optimization model. The Non-RT RIC framework sends a modify Managed Object Instance (MOI) operation to the E2 nodes to adjust the NSSI resources.

Network slice subnet instance resource optimization for 5G systems

A device to host a service producer in a 5G system (or 5G system architecture), a method to be performed at the device, and a non-transitory storage device storing instructions to be executed at the device. The method includes: decoding a request from a service consumer to manage one or more 5G quality of service (QOS) indicators (5QIs), each 5QI including a 5QI value and corresponding 5QI characteristics; configuring one or more network functions (NFs) of the 5GS with the 5QIs based on the request; and encoding for transmission to the service consumer a message including a result of managing the one or more 5QIs.

System and method of managing PNF connectivity in a network slice instance

An apparatus of a management service equipment includes processing circuitry. To configure the management service equipment for E2E performance measurements in a 5G network with a plurality of network functions (NFs), the processing circuitry is to decode RAN latency received from a RAN within the 5G network. The RAN latency is associated with transmission of an Internet protocol (IP) packet between a UE and a data network (DN) via the RAN. A user plane function (UPF) latency associated with communication of the IP packet between the RAN and a UPF within the 5G network is determined. A DN latency associated with communication of the IP packet between the UPF and the DN is determined. An E2E performance measurement calculation is performed to determine an E2E latency associated with communicating the IP packet between the UE and the DN based on the RAN latency, the UPF latency, and the DN latency.
