Adjuncts for use with surgical instruments, such as staplers, are provided. In one embodiment, an adjunct can include a plurality of suction members configured to attach the adjunct to an end effector jaw of a surgical stapler using a suction force. The suction members can be configured to generate the suction force when compressed. The suction members can be further configured to release the suction force to decouple the adjunct from the end effector jaw, permitting deployment of the adjunct at a treatment site. In certain embodiments, the suction members can include a plurality of air pockets formed in the bulk of the adjunct or within protrusions extending outward from a surface of the adjunct. The air pockets can be in communication with corresponding openings allowing air to escape the air pockets when compressed.

Surgical implant

Novel antimicrobial compositions and coatings are disclosed. The antimicrobial compositions consist of mixtures of taurolidine and protamine, including protamine salts. The antimicrobial compositions are particularly useful in coatings for implantable medical devices. The antimicrobial compositions are effective against a broad spectrum of microbes.

Antimicrobial polymer compositions and the use thereof

A soft tissue repair implant includes a body having a base section and at least one appendage extending outwardly from the base section. The body is flexible such that the at least one appendage is movable relative to the base section. More particularly, the body is collapsible to a substantially planar configuration, in which the at least one appendage is positioned substantially co-planar relative to the base section. The body is also expandable to a substantially three-dimensional configuration, in which the at least one appendage extends at an angle from the base section. The body is constructed from a single, one-piece sheet such that the at least one appendage is connected to the base section seamlessly without any joint therebetween. A method for making the implant includes the steps of providing a flexible one-piece sheet, making a plurality of cuts in the sheet so as to form the body, and removing portions of the sheet beyond an outer periphery of the body.

Soft tissue repair implant

Novel implantable tissue repair medical devices are disclosed. The devices have a central fabric member having anti-adhesion films on both opposed sides. The films have pores, and are arranged such that the pores on the opposed films are offset. The devices are useful in hernia repair procedures.
