The invention relates to a display unit for displaying at least one remaining range in a motor vehicle in accordance with the remaining energy supply in at least one drive system, such as the tank fill level in a vehicle driven by a combustion engine and/or the state of charge of the high-voltage battery in a vehicle driven by an electric motor. The display of the remaining range may be hidden even when there is a remaining energy supply if at least one defined operating condition is met. A defined operating condition allows the conclusion that a unit of the drive system is at least temporarily unavailable.

A method and associated safety system are provided for the recognition of defects in a drive system of a motor vehicle, having an electronically controllable brake control system and having at least one electronically controlled driving engine, an electronically controllable clutch and/or having an electronically controllable transmission. An electronic braking control device is assigned to the brake control system, which braking control device is connected with an independent monitoring module. The independent monitoring module checks for an occurrence of an implausible braking torque, for detecting a defect in the drive system.

In the case of a circuit arrangement in an electronic control unit of a motor vehicle for the detection of faults in an electronically controlled drive system, which is structured in at least two levels, a first function-controlling level and a second monitoring level, both levels acquire at least the accelerator pedal position as an input signal. The first level has a driver intention determination block for determining a quantity proportional to the desired longitudinal acceleration. The first level transmits this quantity as an input signal to a plausibility block of the second level. The plausibility block has at least one fault detection program, by which a fault can be detected when a defined correct relationship does not exist for a specified time period between the accelerator pedal position and/or the accelerator pedal position change with respect to the determined quantity proportional to the desired longitudinal acceleration&#x2014;and this relationship is therefore implausible.

Method and circuit arrangement in an electronic control unit of a motor vehicle for detecting faults

A method is provided for detecting faults in an electronically controlled drive system of a motor vehicle by way of an electronic control unit. The electronic control unit detects at least the accelerator pedal position and the longitudinal acceleration of the motor vehicle as input signals. The control unit is configured to carry out a first fault detection program independently of its actual functional scope, by which program, a fault is detected if a defined acceleration gradient, which is dependent on a change in the accelerator pedal position, is exceeded for longer than for a predefined time period.
