The invention relates to a device for the regeneration, temperature loading and/or thermal management of a component, assigned to an exhaust system, of an internal combustion engine. The device includes at least one injection valve which injects a fluid, in particular fuel, into the exhaust system, preferably in chatter mode, for example as a function of the pressure of the supplied fluid. The injection valve has a valve head and a valve seat which have geometries designed in such a way that a fluidic force of the supplied fluid acting on the injection valve drops continuously over a stroke of the valve head. The invention also relates to an injection valve having such valve-head and valve-seat geometries and to a corresponding method for the regeneration, temperature loading and/or thermal management of a component, assigned to an exhaust system, of an internal combustion engine.

A method for monitoring a secondary air system in combination with the exhaust-gas system of a motor vehicle is described. The method includes the steps of: providing a probe downstream of the junction of a secondary air line into the exhaust-gas channel; obtaining an air/fuel ratio (&lgr; ) utilizing the probe; obtaining a signal for the intake air flow (mass ); arithmetically determining the secondary air mass (mass ) in dependence upon (a) the ratio of intake air flow to fuel (&lgr; ), which is metered per unit of time; (b) the air/fuel ratio (&lgr; ); and, (c) the signal for the intake air flow (mass ); and, evaluating the operability of the secondary air system in dependence upon the secondary air mass (mass ).

In a method and device for the open-loop control of an internal-combustion engine, the change in the torque caused by an influencing of the ignition angle is compensated for by a correspondingly adjusted influencing of the air inducted by the internal-combustion engine. Thus, the accelerator-pedal characteristic is hardly influenced in the case of a change in the ignition angle. The method and device can be used, for example, to accelerate the heating up of a catalytic converter after start-up of the internal-combustion engine. To reinforce the heating operation and to reduce emission, an intervention in the air/fuel ratio can be made at the same time, and a switching signal can be produced, for example, for a secondary air pump. The air inducted by the internal-combustion engine is generally influenced by an idle-speed actuator, which is arranged in a by-pass duct leading to the throttle valve. In the case of internal-combustion engines having an electronically controlled throttle valve, in place of the idle-speed actuator, the throttle valve can also be influenced accordingly. Weighting factors which depend on the operating state of the internal-combustion engine, are used to weight the influencing of the ignition angle, the idle-speed actuator, the throttle valve, and/or the air/fuel ratio.

Method and device for the open-loop control of an internal-combustion

A method and apparatus for injecting fuel into the cylinders of an engine which has an injection valve for each cylinder that is positioned so that it can injection fuel into an open inlet port. The method and apparatus provide for fuel to be partially injected into a suction pipe leading to the cylinder before the corresponding intake-valve arrangement opens, so that it is stored in advance. Fuel is also partially injected into the open inlet port. A value which is a measure of the temperature in the suction pipe also is acquired. On the basis of this acquired value, the total required fuel quantity to be stored in advance is determined and to what extent this fuel quantity will be injected after the injection-valve arrangement opens. The method and apparatus avoid the formation of wall film in the suction pipe as a result of storing too much injected fuel in advance.
